Sub 5 hour Century. Great group of friends (all 50+) and a pancake flat course made for an easy day.

26 miles Sunday morning. Supposed to be a recovery ride after pushing pretty hard last week. Had to keep reminding myself to gear down and slow down. I mean slower than I usually am. Which is pretty slow.
|
Not quite as hot as it was yesterday. Legs were a little tired from the start of the ride so I opted not to push too much today. Nice 42 mile ride with a riding buddy. Taking tomorrow off to do maintenance and clean up the bike and the wife's trike.

Boy, what a difference a day makes! Yesterday was nice with lower temps and humidity, but it's all returning today with a good southerly wind bringing in that Gulf moisture. I managed to get in a 125 min ride before the rains are to begin. I also got more time on the new leather saddle helping to break in my sore butt.

18.7 miles (30.1k). I woke up this morning in SloMo, didn't get out until ¾ hour later than usual. Haven't ridden the Lil' Tarmac for 3 weeks so I took it out today. No comparison in comfort level between it and the Roubaix(s). Shorter ride than I've been doing.
Oh, and that was a pin hole flat yesterday. Couldn't find anything in the tire. I've taken out all the tire liners for a better ride, got just as many flats with them in. I did put the two tubes that came with the Roubaix Pro at the bottom of the pile, 60mm stems, don't like those. I ride 33mm. 2017: 3,679m (5,920k) ♂ Total: 18,667m (30,042k) |
After lunch, I rode down to the James River here in Richmond, Virginia, and can't believe how low the water is! Good Lord, do we need rain!! :twitchy:
14.85 miles in 59:20 and had a nice relaxing ride.... The map layout from MapMyRide: http://i.imgur.com/BbQ6VU4.jpg My C&V '85 Fuji along the James River at the Z-dam. Look close (if you can) in the background of the photo, and you'll see people on inner tubes and rafts, floating on the river! http://i.imgur.com/0JEPRgp.jpg I stopped along the Huguenot Bridge on the way back, looking downstream along the river. I was trying to snap a photo of two people in kayaks, and as luck would have it, they are right behind the upper guard rail of the bridge. Oh well... http://i.imgur.com/F3l80P8.jpg Lastly, I held on tight to my smartphone, and leaned over the bridge to take a photo of how low the water is! Normally the river is 3 - 4 feet deep by the bridge, not 8 - 10" deep!!! http://i.imgur.com/Bjs1St4.jpg |
did my little 14.76 mile in 1 hour 53 seconds . i'm faster a than herd of wild turtles .

30 miles in semi recovery mode. Stormed around 5:00 PM, but in this FL heat things generally don't stay wet for long, so I was out by 6:15. Bike definitely needs a chain, I will get better at keeping fresh ones on it.....

Yesterday: 54 miles including the 38 mile medium route of a club ride as part of Indy's Mass Ave Crit weekend. Really appreciate my long ti frame and not-skinny tires on the less-than-perfect road surfaces often found in Central Indiana.
Scenic byways. Today: 11 rain-shortened tandem miles. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4333/...2ce3a389_b.jpg |
Not yet, but I'm also waiting for cooler weather and a 1946 Shelby Traveler to arrive.
|
Had a small tornado touch down right along my commute route over the weekend. This morning I got to dodge tree limbs, metal building panels and roofing materials the last 5 miles to work! Rode down 2 streets that were blocked to car traffic due to trees laying on the road. Lots of fun!

Well sadly, Colorado Springs, CO. has become the new Seattle, WA. it's been raining for days!!! We did manage to get in 11 miles around the local area before the rain came in pouring buckets, ARRRUGH!! It's turned to fall in August, this is a bummer!! :(

25.6 miles (41.2k). It was beyond cool to cold on the bare arms this morning. A few cooler days then back to the 90s Friday.

37 Miles. Shortest ride in 5 months. So much smoke from multiple forest fires I had to cut my ride short. Couldn't do my hill intervals. Probably shouldn't have gone out today. That fine particulate smoke is the worst kind for your lungs.
Picture from clearer day. https://s19.postimg.org/m73g9kwer/Journey2.jpg |
Got 63 miles in with a nice early start. The weather was sunny and humid and then the clouds came in and a short and soaking rain for about 20 minutes. Good thing I didn't wash my bike before the ride this time. Amazing how much road grit gets kicked up on the bike and legs.
|
Yesterday! Did a 97.6km ride in 5.56 hours. finished 5 nature valley oats and honey bars, 3 liter of water and 3 cups of coffee..and I did it on a 27.5" 9 speed Mountain bike.
|
Supposed to rain this morning but was quite dry when I got up so of course had to ride to work.
Forgot my pump and emergency tools etc but not a problem. Commuting flats are a very rare event for me, knock on my wooden head. No problems - 20 miles total. (Pump, etc) is secured to bike for tomorrow |
Spent yesterday cleaning the bike and the wife's trike so I didn't get to ride. This morning was very hot and very hot. Did my normal 40 mile route as a solo ride. It was just too hot to work up a good energy burn.

I started out with 21.3 miles (34.3k) in cooler temps. Riding the '05 Allez Aluminum is like putting on a friendly ol' pair of jeans.
But then one block from my house my SUV transmission dropped out of gear at a stop sign and I sat there for 3 hours waiting for a tow truck. During that time I had the sense to walk the block home, change clothes, get the Roubaix and put it in the car so I would have transportation home from the mechanic. 28.2 miles (45.4k), a 6.9 mile ride home in 100° heat (whew!) 21 miles in today. Just missed a rain storm. Roads were still a little wet in places. Good thing I didn't wash my bike.

A real barn burner, 96 degrees when I embarked on a 44 mile solo rode. The heat doesn't bother me too-too much, and the road to Williston is canopied, straight and long, so it's a great road to unwind on. Hydrated and ate candy bars during the ride, and kept the HR above 140 for a good distance. Nice strong effort....
|
20 miles and finally finished a 2.5 mile roller coaster loop that's always thwarted me before -- I usually needed to stop halfway to catch my breath and huff on my asthma inhaler.
