12.8 miles yesterday during linch on a 1974 Raleigh 3-speed, rattles and all.

Another 12.8 miles again today at lunch but this time on the Marin MTB.

Haven't decided about tomorrow yet.

wthensler 08-18-17 06:44 PM

Poured all day today, so more stairs at the gym. I really think it's going to augment my riding strength anyway. But, the bike is packed up for an early start tomorrow - 7:00 AM departure with the club, scheduled for 55 miles.

wthensler 08-19-17 10:28 AM

This AM six of us started out in the small village of LaCrosse, and three of us continued past the 28 mile loop to complete 53 miles in all. It's about to pour again; I'm grateful for an early AM start!

ctpres 08-19-17 10:36 AM

10 miles - 9 on bike just peddling enough to move and another mile on my new mag trainer. Must say that for under $35 I am impressed.

A good 40 mile solo ride this morning. Around mile 4, my RFLKT locked up on me and when I noticed it was locked and rebooted it, it decided to die on me. It's been having disconnect issues every few days for the last few weeks. Looks like after 4 years and just over 700 rides, it's time to start looking for a replacement. Undecided between the Wahoo Bolt or the Wahoo Mini.

26.8 miles (41.1k) on the heavier but trusty ol' Allez. Even with all the technological advances since 2005 this is still one of my favorite bikes, triple chain rings/9 speed and all. Planning a small group 50 miler tomorrow.

30 miles on totally flat roads. I almost forgot what it was like. No hills. All pedaling, no coasting.

JanMM 08-19-17 06:11 PM

Drove to work Friday, but got out in the early evening for an 18 mile ride.
Midday today, rode 26 miles south into rural countryside and then back to the 'burbs. 90F but didn't feel that hot.

ButchA 08-19-17 06:51 PM

Just a very, very, easy peasy, 6½ mile ride around my neighborhood before it started getting dark. It was way too hot and humid earlier today (besides I had stuff to do anyway).

I stopped just before the Collegiate School here in the west end of Richmond, VA and turned on my blinking head & tail lights. No water bottle, no GPS, but just a simple "get out and ride while you can" type of thing in 23 minutes.

11:10PM last night out for a nice easy 15.91 miler. 79F with 74% humidity

7:43AM out this morning for today's LBS 8AM ride. 73F with 89% humidity LBS ride was 39 miles of power to the pedals then 31 additional for 70 total.

10:13PM out once more just for the halibut. 28.36 miles at 88F with 71% humidity supposedly feels like 100F without the sun  Lightning started to fill the night sky so HOME AGAIN and bed.

Saturday -- Rowan and I travelled to the north of the state with the intention of starting ... and perhaps finishing ... a 400 km. We weren't sure if we'd complete the 400 because we haven't been well in recent weeks, and haven't done nearly enough cycling recently ... so we figured it might be a bit of a struggle.

Also, while this weekend presented us with sunshine during the day, it was not at all warm. Shortly after we started, Rowan's thermometer read -1.8C and the high reached 12C for a little while. Tonight it is supposed to drop below freezing again with frost.

So, we started the 400 km, and covered the part of the route I really wanted to ride ... a section we've driven but have never ridden. And it is beautiful! The route twists and turns and climbs a little and has some flat sections, and presents riders with a lovely view of the Great Western Tiers which are topped with snow at this time of year.

All up, we covered 183.8 km and I really enjoyed the ride. I was so pleased to be able to do that distance, and had fun out there! :)

Also ... when we reached 157 km, Rowan and I decided to go out for dinner to celebrate our anniversary (it's next week). Evil Rowan made the booking for 6 pm, which gave us an hour and a quarter to cover the last 27 km, a quarter hour to get ready and half an hour to get there. We made it! I can move briskly when there's Mexican food at stake.

To be fair to Rowan, he did try to get a booking for later, but this place is popular and busy and 6 pm was the only time we could get in.

Distance 183.8 km
Elevation: 1256 metres

26.5 miles (42.6k), some steep hills, couldn't make the 50 miles. My right shoulder started aching. I have shoulder replacement surgery scheduled later this year. I opted for a total body replacement but...

A very easy 40 mile ride with my old riding buddy, Lou. Between getting engaged and then married, he's done hardly any riding since last year's Coast to Coast ride. Since he's doing the C2C again, in two months, he's finally getting back on the bike again. This was his first 40 mile ride since last October so we took it nice and easy. After a few more 40 and 50 mile rides, we need to work on his speed. :)

OldTryGuy 08-20-17 02:41 PM

Met 2 cycling buds at LBS 6:50AM today. Had expected a crowd but not today. Almost a repeat of last Sunday's ride without the rain. :thumb: 83 miles after all said and done.

JanMM 08-20-17 03:17 PM

27 mostly-rural miles on the tandem midday today. Sunny and hit 90.

canklecat 08-20-17 03:39 PM

29 miles Sunday late morning... so far. No particular plan today. Thought I might work on heat conditioning, or just time in the saddle in prep for a century ride... or whatever occurs. Probably pushed too hard the first leg as the heat index climbed after noon. Rested 10-15 minutes twice, loafed home.

Now I'm pondering going back out after eating. We'll see.

MidSouthBiker 08-20-17 05:30 PM

100 minutes yesterday AM, and another 110 minutes this AM, both around town. I felt I could have gone longer both days, but with the heat index over 100, I decided to err on the side of caution and safety.

wthensler 08-20-17 05:36 PM

Busy Sunday trying to cram chores in, and wanted to take a breather before riding. But when I looked at the weather, I knew I'd better head out soon to avoid the storms. Was it ever hot, heat index over 100. Still managed 43 miles before the storms came rumbling in. I'm well over 4,000 for the year, and should go over 6k if work doesn't slow me up too much.

25 miles this morning in Estero ,fl

clubber 08-20-17 07:11 PM

35 miles today. It's my new daily number.

Yesterday I "threw a shoe" when un-clipping from my right pedal found I only had a single screw left in the mounting plate. Couldn't use screws from my left shoe cuz they are twice as long (I have a stack of 4 additional plates being 1 inch short from ankle fusion). First time using Uber to get home from 17 miles out.

Rollfast 08-20-17 08:03 PM

All my riding was in Mom's Buick...to get stuff for my bike projects (and lunch).

I'll try and get some time in tonight, it's still a bit dicey with eclipse freaks on the street (still no lines painted on the redone roads, and RVS)

canklecat 08-20-17 08:44 PM

Another 18 miles Sunday evening. Curious to see how much was left in the tank after the afternoon ride. Not much, it turns out. It was even hotter this evening.

mfhorn 08-21-17 06:31 AM

I've got a LONG ways to go before I'm even thinking about the numbers I'm seeing. I could probably do more than I do, but at least I'm getting out & moving some. A couple miles in the morning & a couple in the evening. I haven't exercised at all really in years. Had heart surgery a little over 5 1/2 years ago (Merry Christmas to me!) and kept up with the same lousy habits. I'm trying to do better now, but it's a big change & a lot of work.

Nice 12.15 mile ride down to the James River here in Richmond, VA before the solar eclipse...

Stopped to try to take a photo of the river and someone's gazebo in their backyard (too much shade...)

Took a shot of the Huguenot Bridge in the distance along the James River.

Gee, I wonder if anyone knows where I stopped to take this photo!

Lastly, I stopped at Trinity United Methodist, perhaps seeking some "Divine Guidance" in getting me home safe and sound, as I opted to take Forest Ave up to Patterson (busy!) and rode Patterson back to my side streets and home.
