Longest ride in 2 years, 13 miles at the Parklands, untimed. God bless muscle memory. Flat course and low gearing didn’t hurt, either.

Got back Wednesday from our Alaska Cruise. Today was my first ride in 3 weeks so it was out the door at 12:05AM for a very warm 76 miles. A MUST shower and kit change, grabbed a bite to eat along with a few zzzzzzz's since I only had 90 minutes of sleep last night. Got back out and was able to suck-wheels for 15 miles then on my own for a total of 126 miles.

IronM 06-09-18 12:53 PM

Yep, about 65 mostly solo miles. I wasn't trying for solo, but lost the group on a big climb. That seems to be happening a lot this year. Honestly though, sometimes it's just nice to pluck along at one's own pace

I've been getting lazy about posting lately. Got rained out on Wednesday and it looked as if I was going to get rained out on Friday since it was drizzling when I got ready to leave. After I decided not to ride, the sun came out and stayed out all day. Unfortunately, the wife took the van (with the bike in it) and didn't get back from shopping until late afternoon. So for this week:

Tuesday: 40 miles
Thursday: 64 miles
Today: 72 miles

This morning rode 10 miles to a 20 mile club ride and then 10 miles home. The ride was aimed at folks who don't usually do club rides and attracted a variety of folks, including three tandem teams with child stokers, several folks who had been away from cycling for a while, folks who are not in shape but want to be, etc. Plus some of us regular riders to act as mentors/encouragers. Not a fast ride but enjoyable. The last woman in, who wasn't sure that she could make it from the last rest stop, got a round of applause.

A short 11.5 mi ride with my wife out on the gravel paths in the forest preserve in pitch black. Was nice, cool and quiet.

Put off mowing the lawn. Again. 35 mile paved & dirt road ride up to Brookfield VT’s famous floating bridge and across to Allis State Park then down the steep road through Northfield Gulf. Gorgeous May weather with a brisk headwind going out and a tailwind to take me home.

Harumph 06-10-18 06:42 AM

65 miles of hilly terrain. Averaged 19.5.

John_V 06-10-18 11:05 AM

A scorching hot 40 mile ride this morning. Did 25 with a riding buddy and 15 solo miles.

16.6 miles (26.7k). The middle of June and I'm wearing full winter gear. Where, exactly, is all this "global warming" taking place? It ain't here. Still feeling rather anemic and tired.

2018: 1,442m (2,320k) —Total:22,425m (36,0S9k)

MidSouthBiker 06-11-18 11:40 AM

Yesterday I gave the old legs a rest.
But with a greater chance of rain tomorrow, I decided to extend today's ride just a little.
Got in 2 hours and 7 minutes.

We may have had some of that "global warming" here in The MidSouth last month, which tied for the warmest month of May on record.
However, April 2018 was the fourth coldest on record. So go figure.

13.7 miles (22.0k). Much warmer today, shorts and a long sleeved jersey. The spirit was willing but the body ran outta gas. It takes a long time to build up hemoglobin. Too many (legal) drugs in my system. I'm a walking pharmacy.

51 Miles. Beautiful day, a little cool. After 3 days off I felt very strong and very fast. A few miles from home at the bottom of a long steep hill I saw a young woman with her bike upside down looking at it totally perplexed. Stopped and asked if she needed help, she said yes. (It's been a long time since a woman said yes to me) She had dropped her chain and it was very tightly jammed between the bottom bracket and chain ring. She had kept peddling hard after it fell off and there was chain wrapped two lengths of chain together for 4" around the bottom bracket. Took about 15 minutes to figure which chain was which, but finally figured it out and got her on her way. Asked her not to pass me on the way to the top, she said she wouldn't, but within a minute she passed me and was gone....Forever

A spirited ~22 mile group ride with the Club before work.

OldTryGuy 06-12-18 06:34 PM

At mile 118.8 my front wheel washed out making a slow U-turn and went down hard. Two weeks from tomorrow is my prostate cancer surgery so have to make sure healing is good. Had hoped for 150 today but only made 133 miles.

MidSouthBiker 06-12-18 07:10 PM

Got in another 2.0 hours before the rains started this afternoon.

An hour on the indoor trainer, first time on a bike in a month since I was hit by a car and ended up with a borked shoulder. Spot checked my heart rate now and then. Seems to be in the appropriate zones, but I might have to get a proper monitor. Shoulder still a bit achy and crunchy but I can avoid too much pressure by balancing on the top of the bar just using my left hand. Sure beats the walking I've been substituting for bike rides the past month. Probably be another month before I'm ready for a road ride.

15 miles on my lunch break...75 and humid here, and very breezy....
I'm retiring in a few weeks, so these stinkin' lunch hour rides will hopefully be replaced by longer rides in the morning !!

Greybeard712 06-13-18 01:45 PM

11.4 miles (18.3k), I figured if climbing that hill over the I-80 was going to preclude my riding, I'll just cut out that section of the ride. 10-12 miles is better than no miles. According to Dr. I don't have RA, I have vasculitus. Its going to take about 3 months to build up the red blood cells again, all during the best riding months :(

2018: 1,467m (2,361k) —Total:22,450m (36,130k)

44 Miles up to the Mt. Bachelor ski resort and back. 15-30 mph headwinds all the way up. I was even working hard on the few downhill sections riding into that wind. I stopped a few times and I had to lean into the wind, it was difficult to stay up standing on two feet. I put the bike in my granny gear and sat and spun up, sometimes only making 4.5 mph.Coming back I had to keep my speed under 30 mph because I was getting blown around by the wind. I've hit 45 coming down on a windless day, with the tail wind it pushed me so hard I often had to use the brakes even though I wasn't peddling. This was my hardest ride of the year by far, maybe ever. Coming down I was surprised to see how it's multi mile long continuous climbs with no break. It was my first ride up there this year, I'll make very sure the winds are much calmer next time.

Did a 72 mile long systems (body) check this morning making sure everything was working properly after Tuesday's crash. Slow and easy without issues. :thumb: :thumb:

10.0 miles (16.1k). Days are getting nicer but I'm still wearing arm warmers.

Yesterday I took a break from the bike, but got the yard mowed. Today I got in a 2 hr. 5 min. ride around town.

JanMM 06-14-18 05:19 PM

Another 21 mile bike commuter day today. Yesterday was muggly but very very nice this morning and much warmer but not so humid this afternoon.
