45 balmy degrees this afternoon with 13 mph west winds. So I kitted up and put in 18 mi. on the local bike paths. It has started out somewhat colder than last year but I am hoping I can get in more miles and more days riding before spring than last years totals.

You are an encourager, Dudelsack, and I appreciate it. Lots of encouraging folks on here in the fifty+ area. And, if I understand it correctly, the N+1 thought appeared a few days after my wife bought me this bike. You may have noticed that it is a "low entry" model. I wasn't flexible enough to properly get on one with a bar. But when we decided to buy this one my wife said that once I lost some weight and rode some to increase my flexibility, I could always get another one. So the fever is mostly dormant right now but......

12 miles yesterday, 22 YTD all indoors

Rode with my Sunday Rider's Group this morning for a nice 21 mile ride and then a nice brunch. Started off a bit foggy but ended up with a beautiful and sunny 74º morning. I guess the 60% rain chances they were talking about is suppose to be later in the day.

A sweltering 46 degrees, perfect for working on the local hills. Got in 10.35 miles of conditioning, then spent the remaining "5 miles" helping one of a pair of riders teach her horse that bikes aren't the scary things he thought they were (a 15 minute session that left her smiling and laughing and very appreciative, and her formerly snorting horse confidently and boldly "herding" my bike around like a sheepdog with a sheep) then standing and chatting with my neighor who'd just arrived back from Florida for a few days before returning. I was highly amused as he said the thought of biking 10 miles made him faint. :p And he was a former steeplechase race rider in his younger days.

Ah, the weatherperson was wrong here. There was a 70% chance of rain and not a drop. Cilla and I were able to do 31 miles on our local rail trail. We got to meet a couple of new faces as well. They were not your typical snowbird.

Did I ride today...or better title, HTFU!
Got up at 04:00 and the roads were wet and it was drizzly--no ride. Started laundry and ironed a bunch of my dress shirts and undershirts(yes, the T-shirts). I then folded the laundry and ate lunch. Felt drowsy...HTFU!!! I tell myself. I get dressed in my gear(temps are pretty nice, especially compared to temps at 04:30 AM. I go out and at the 23 mile mark I'm wondering if I will only do 32. HTFU!!!!, I say to myself. I ended up doing 43 miles and only because it was going to get dark too soon for me to do 50 miles. I don't mind riding in the wee hours of the AM in the dark--very few cars. But in the evening, it's a different kettle of fish.
So, yes, I did ride today--43 miles. |
Was that a can or bottle of HTFU? I understand the bottle is better.
Did 8.6 (according to Strava app, 8.7 according to my bike computer) miles. Temp was a nice 54f. |
19 miles on a easy recreational ride with the Mrs., mostly back streets as the MUP's still have a lot of snow and ice on them. A great sandwich downtown, setting outside on the patio but the breeze was CHILLY. Made home before the sun went down. :)

Rode 17 cold wet windy miles. 37F 10-15 mph wind.

Boy is was hot but got rained on coming back. Tomorrow is big ride day but it is also big football day. May stay home and watch. Remember, I am +8 hours here |
We got in 24 miles today. A little cool for us but pleasant just the same. We found these REAL snow birds hanging about trailside. They are Sand Hill Cranes.

Started out after breakfast with a temp of 63º and overcast skies but the 12-15 mph winds made it a bit cooler. Gusts were around 20+ mph and we're suppose to have a high probability of rain today. Luckily, there was no rain during my 30 mile ride, so that was good, but the winds were not much fun.

Live in Rainbow Springs just out side of Ocala.

35 windy miles today.

I sort of rode the bike today. Started out about about 8:30 am in what seemed not to cold and turned out to be mid 30s F. The roads looked damp but it turned out numerous areas had a skin of ice. So I aborted riding and instead headed to the library for a few hours. I will try again tomorrow, which also promised to be a very nice day but will begin the rice in the pm.

After getting a little bored with the route I have used for seven days I loaded the bike and drove to Farmersville. There I parked by the historic Onion Shed and started on the Chaparral Rails to Trails at the Audie Murphy Trail Head. There is pavement for 2.5 miles then it becomes crushed gravel. I ended up doing 11 or 11.2 miles, depending on if you believe Strava or my bike computer. :) Temp was about 40f when I started. I rode the paved portion of the trail twice, with a little thrown in to reach the 11 mile mark. I didn't try the crushed gravel since I haven't done that before and I was riding alone.

24 miles today, last 30 mins in the dark, cooling to about 40 degrees, no wind :)
|
Didn't ride to day we have the opposite down here in OZ extreme temps and bush fires 43deg C today.Still 40 deg c now at 7pm so no ride after work.

Ya gotta love Florida. Started my normal 30 mile ride at 9:00 in a nice 68º temp with sunshine and a 6 mph wind and ended up with a temp of 81º. Weatherman predicts mid to upper 80's all week and little chance of rain.
|
We got out for 26 miles on the Withalcoohee State Trail starting in Floral City. That way we could end at Ferris Groves for a fresh strawberry shake and a 1/2 flat of my favorite red berries to take home. i agree with John_V... Fl is the place this time of year.
