25.86 miles. Temps were a chilly 40 when I started with the first 8 miles in deep shade, but the temps were already rising faster than I could outrun them. Which meant the return trip home - in 50 degrees - was sans one of my three jackets (the medium weight one I took off and knotted around my waist - I kept on the two lightweight jackets) and sans gloves (to help cool the core body temp) as "home" was all up a grade and facing into the wind.
Very nice ride. Very quiet and peaceful. |
With 64*F temps today and 61 yesterday I took advantage of the weather both days and got two great rides for the effort.

23 miles, stopped off at the LBS on the way home to get the wife's new full fenders for her "trekking hybrid", (of course it has trekking bars, LOL!), looked funny bungied on top of my rack pack but I got them home safe. The ice and snow was melted enough to ride a bit on the Creekside Trail to Manitou Springs!

On Dec. 26 came 7.5 inches of snow plus residual ice/frozen snow on local streets. Then, off to Phoenix 1/1/13 for a week without bikes.
Back home again last night. Still lots of snow around but the streets are clear. Hooray! First ride of the New Year today, finally -> ten miles on a sunny 44F afternoon. (Felt good.) |
Rode Monday. 23 miles. 32 degree day in Columbus, Ohio. Think this was the coldest weather I have ridden.
Should be riding Wednesday as well. Will be a balmy 46 or so for the high temp. |
42 HTFU miles this AM. Was thinking it was too cold to go further than 30 so I told myself the HTFU and did 42 miles.

We rode 24 miles on the rail trail this morning in the 70's. It was our last ride on our 18 year Mongoose Crossway 850 (they go into retirement). Then the LBS called while we were riding telling us our new bikes (Giant Escape RX 0's) were ready for fitting and pickup. So after lunch off we when and did another 10 miles in 80 degree weather on the new set. Will be doing the additions tonight and hope to be out again for a little longer ride on the new steeds.
Info on new bikes posted here |
20 miles, mostly back streets and the paved part of the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail, here in Colorado Springs. Sunny, Cold breeze, 35+F, mainly a ride to get some fresh air as they were doing the annual "spray for bugs" in our apt. building today. The photo is the fishing pond on the PPGWT, frozen over with Pikes Peak in the background. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...777618&thumb=1

Five miles this morning after leaving the minivan/bike hauler to have a persistently leaky tire looked at. They found a small nail and patched it. Hooray! Bet I couldn't have ridden any of my bikes for months with a small nail in a tire.

Our weather has turned strange this week for this time of the year. Got in a ride in the sloppy conditions from a mist that hung on all day making things wet and sloppy out on the road. It was warmer than usual at 67 but muggy from the stalled front. Supposed to be raining tomorrow and Friday so it will be rides between showers for me. Time to consider some racer blade fenders that will work since the limited clearance for the fork and bridge on the rear triangle as well as running the 700X25 tyres, prevents full fenders.

Cycled 20 miles, one stop for Gatorade 50/50 water.
Fell great, 85 degrees and full sun Wow. Life is great, enjoy |
Haven't ridden since Monday, been out of town on assignment. Plan to commute to the office tomorrow. Temperatures have been moderating this week though.

Did ride 25 miles as hoped Wednesday. Used Strava for the first time. Do like Starva better than Mytracks.

Looks like another mild winter for us here in the south. Did another 30 miles at the MUP in sunny, but breezy, 81º weather. Forecasted to remain this way for the next seven to ten days.

20 miles for a post colonoscopy ride

Another learning experience today. Did not ride for the last two days due to rain (5 inches or so over two days, just the kind of rain we need so badly). Today I did 8.4 miles so eight+ miles is established as my new goal for every ride. My learning experience today was riding in wind. Had a heavy wind blowing and it just happened to be blowing against me on the uphill (exaggeration, they aren't "uphill" so much as slight inclines) portions of my route. I think I dislike the wind more than I dislike the inclines. :)
|
Many riders would rather face hills, inclines, than wind.
Did 34 miles this AM before reporting for the Sub job. |
Had a windy ride just ahead of the line of thunder storms this afternoon/evening. Strong, gusty East wind made it a trick to keep a straight line on the road, no problems but kept me on my toes.

Rode on the Pinellas trail today and was passed by an old man on a trike.

30.2 miles. Glorious day, a fun ride, everyone on the MUP was happy to be outside. Even motorists on the roads were friendly and accomodating and polite to the bikes that mingled among the motor traffic. Temps at the start 45; by the finish 55. Forecast for Sunday - 70 degrees.

YA BUT Sarge, there was a down hill side!!!
They are never as long as the uphill side but time to rest Where I lived in Red Mountain we had 14 miles uphill with a big head win at times! Had to walk to school in 6 inches of snow too!! |

Did 34 miles this AM before reporting for the Sub job. I have a couple of teaching assignments later this month Hopefully they won't interfer with my riding Like my bike riding, it will be a first.:-) |
My first ride with snow on the ground, though not on the streets. They do a fantastic job plowing here. Lower 30s with a good headwind. I think I need a pair of goggles as my eyes tear in the cold wind which then makes my cheeks cold. But my ride is so short it's not really a problem. When I got to work I found that the bike rack had been moved and was in a snow bank. Again, not a big deal. I'm sure some think there's something wrong with me, but I'm learning not to care. Not that I have, greatly, but it would be nice to not care at all. I'll get there. Probably about the same time as when I can make it up the long (for me) incline without having to go to my lowest gear. My chain skips every once in a while, so I'm saving pennies for a new cassette, chain and crankset, but with all the tuition bills around here... well, you know how it is.

Nice ride into the office this morning after not riding since Monday. 22F, calm, clear, sun just coming up. We are having a January thaw and the roads are all clear down to bare pavement again. Planning an enjoyable commute home tonight also. Will be out of town again next week so I will try and get some riding in this weekend.
