16 miles seems to be about the limit for me. It's as far as I can go and still be back home to fix breakfast in the morning. I'll need to schedule a day for myself one day, and just start off at the Watershed trail, and randomly noodle along the rats-nest of MCT trails near Edwardsville. :)

Today I got up late, so I just noodled around Wood River for a couple of miles. Yesterday, I challenged myself once again by going to the Watershed Trail, which means pedaling up the Edwardsville Road at Kendall Hill.

I went out as far as the Watershed Nature Center, where I got off my bike and actually went down the footpath. You can tell how the drought is by the fact that this wetlands preserve is more of a "drylands" preserve at the moment.

I want to be strong when I go to Canada but im afraid with only two or three weeks before I go I doubt it. Ill keep you informed on my progress///I enjoy reading you bikers training regimens so pease tell me what yer doing.Kenneth

Kenneth,
I claim no expertise in training regiments, but have tried a few different things. I'm 65 now and have been rdiding more seriously for around 8 years now. For the last two years I've found my body pretty much dictates how fast I ride adn even the distance. I admire you for the 20 milers, but I traing regularly at 15 miles 3 days on - one day off. I also leave me house at 6 am and am usually back no later than 7:15. I just seesm to endure better and reatin strength better in the cooler temps of around 68-72 degrees. I don't even bring out either of my bikes in the 85+ range. But keep at it and just make sure you are taking some vitamins to help supplement whatever we have left at our wonderful age. My mind tells me I'm 35, but the body tells me something much uglier. Good luck in Canada and JUST DO IT!

Nice brisk 36-mile group ride before work this morning.

John_V 08-08-12 02:28 PM

Nice 34 mile ride this morning. Did one lap with a friend of mine at a very brisk pace. Although I really enjoy my solo rides, it's nice to ride and chat every once in a while

I did ride today. After writing out checks to pay bills I decided that instead of jumping in my car and running down to the post office, I would just ride my bike down and throw them in the mail box. It's only about a two mile round trip from my house in the small town I live, so I decided to just do a little 6:30am riding around town as well. My best guess is that I probably rode 5 miles or so (give or take), but it was sure nice riding in the cool weather instead of the high 90's and 100 degree temps our days turn into between 10:00am and noon.

7.5 miles at 30 minutes with 15 minutes of free weights.

Sounds like a good choice!

7 miles indoors because there were thunderstorms out doors . About 40 for the month .

Bikey Mikey 08-09-12 05:38 AM

30 miles this morning.

Yesterday I got in a ride in the heat that returned, thunderstorm had passed too early today to let the cool air help out. Ride felt good with a South tailwind on the last leg home. Motorist on the high speed section were very courteous today, pleasant surprise.

Beautyful pictures David. Morning hikes and rides are precious. Ya, take the day off and fix breakfast on the trail!

Biked 4 yesterday, "seat test." Couldn't wait to try a proper width seat so planned ahead and snuck this in on the way to work. It's nice having an older Buick to carry a bike in the back seat.

Did 36 miles this morning after being off the bike the past 5 days due to a death in the family. The ride was wonderful for my mental state after the grief I've been through this past week. Wife and family very supportive and pushed me to get back on the bike to help clear my mind.

I was able to get in a not-so-good 26 mile ride in today. On the ride this morning, about 1/2 mile into the ride, my computer started flashing, letting me know the transmitter battery is dying. Turned around and went back to the van to change the battery, unclipped and dismounted but the cleat got caught in the pedal and I went down on my right knee. Small scrape and a little swelling. Changed the battery, only to find out it wasn't any good either. I don't know how long the backup battery was in my bike bag. Got on the bike and started riding and got to the footpath only to find out it's under water again, after last nights thunderstorm. I gave up and did two partial laps.

It's a solo pie ride!!!!!

Hadn't been on the bike for four days and decided since I had the day off I would get some practice for the metric centuries I want to do in Sept/Oct. Started off at the crack of dawn in the cool of the morning and headed out. Had a few issues with cars on some suburban roads who gave me less than three feet. By the time I got out onto the rural roads that was no longer a problem. Rode into a 17mph headwind on the first half of the ride and only had to fight a few miles of headwind in the last half. One downwind stretch was great and I averaged over 22mph of easy spinning on that 8 mile leg. :D Prolly should have had a powerbar or energy snack with me as I felt I was running a little low on energy for the last 5 miles of the ride. Total for the ride, 58.7 miles

Still it was a thoroughly enjoyable morning.

Pix of pie to be posted later.

Later...

20.7 @ 13.0 this AM. Finally set a five k segment on Strava so now I can compete against myself. Will be a long time before anybody rides in my hood.

az_cyclist 08-09-12 01:02 PM

12.2 @ 18.7 this morning before work

bjjoondo 08-09-12 03:25 PM

22 miles, legs felt better today, actually tackled some hills! :)

qcpmsame 08-09-12 03:38 PM

Rode this afternoon since the daily thunderstorm went through early. Only 84 during the ride and cloudy to boot. Felt great and went really well.

RaymondK43 08-09-12 04:11 PM

7.5 miles.

OldFartCyclist 08-09-12 10:13 PM

18 miles @ 17. Changed routes and went north of town today. Disadvantage is crazy farm worker traffic on the way to the fields and orchards of the Columbia Basin.

RoadTire 08-10-12 12:40 AM

20 today, 16 on the flats at 16mph. The other 4 miles were screw around with seat, bars, and cool down after the push. Tried to do a couple 8 minute intervals but 5 minutes at a shot is enough for now. Would like to get to 3 x 8 pretty soon.

Hey! I cramped today! Yippeee...I think. Never had that biking before. Lungs and heart are good, just the legs not used to such fast spinning I guess.

Bikey Mikey 08-10-12 05:28 AM

30 miles today. I planned to do at least 40 and maybe 50 but the weather forecast didn't look favorable for 50. Right around the 28 mile mark there were a few drops and then a few more. I was close to home and didn't want to get caught in a thunderstorm or downpour so I went home and made the ride 30 miles. After a shower and taking morning meds, I looked out the window and cursed. I could've done the 40--too late--at least I got 30 miles in.

ctpres 08-10-12 10:27 AM

20.7 @ 13 with about one mi in the middle of ride @ 20+ gee that's 1% of my sub five century.

Mort Canard 08-10-12 01:34 PM

Did 16 miles this morning in about 1hr and 2min. Seat just a bit sore from the long ride I did yesterday. 73 degrees and almost no wind. Caught the first sand burr of the season in the front tire. I will need tire savers for the Team Fuji soon. They are a great deterrent to flats.
