23 miles, seemed strange to ride on a Sunday without the wife, nice day and the choc. milkshake at the end was awesome! :)
|
Saturday - 67 miles at 18.9MPH average through rolling hills in NE Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. Followed by chocolate milk recovery drink.
Sunday - 25 mile recovery ride at 17MPH. Followed by more chocolate milk recovery drink. Basically, I ride so that I can drink chocolate milk without feeling guilty. |
Rode fairly early this afternoon. No rain for the first day in 60. Ride was hot, 90*F but the humidity was really low. Just had a Clif Bar and some Kool-Aid for recovery.

Did a bit under 40 miles on the tandem today, some wet. More details in C&V...

Went out this morning for the first time in almost 2 weeks. I was surprised how shredded my legs were when I was done. Sheesh.

Did one of my favorite rural loops on the Team Fuji this afternoon. 24 miles with a 15mph North wind and 27mph gusts. 95 degree temps but at least it's not triple digits.

17 miles on the resurrected ,
if not pretty , Schwinn Passage . 70 mo. |

Woke up at 1:30AM and couldn't go back to sleep. Finally gave up trying and got up around 2:40--got started on the ride about 3:15AM and rode 39.4 miles. 90% of my ride was fighting a nasty 15mph crosswind or headwind so my avg speed suffered compared to what I've been doing for a while. Some sections of the ride I swear I was fighting 20mph gusts. One small downhill area where I typically get up to 23/24mph, I couldn't even get up to 16mph.
Saw a few deer and was very cautious as those rascals can jump right in front of you...made me a bit nervous but they never did try to cross in front of me--unlike about a week ago when several bolted across the road but were far enough ahead, and with my slowing down, it wasn't an issue. I was almost home, riding through a fairly wild bit of woodland here in north east Scotland, when I heard a dry rattly /scratchy sort of sound behind me,when I looked back ,I saw a badger running up behind me. Now I don't know what was on his mind, they have poor eyesight so maybe he thought he was running away from the hazard my bike and me offered,or being a Scotts badger, was he having a go !! Anyway I didn't hang about to find out, I rode off as fast as I could, didnae want to tangle . Deer are plentyfull around here , and I take a lot of care riding in the evening, but aggressive badgers, sod that. |
39.3 miles this morning. It seemed a tad harder than usual and with no wind to speak of. Maybe I was still tired from the 3 hours at a water park on top of riding 41 miles in the early AM yesterday.
@Drumnagorrach, I wouldn't want to tangle with a badger either. |
Dairyland Dare: August 11th
I need a do-over! I had a great time with the Bikeforums C&V group at the Dairyland Dare. However, my bike failed, so I had to stop at 52 miles at 10:30am. My BB turned to mud and worked loose. It was acting badly all day and got worse as I continued. I stopped at a rest/food/support stop, and a mechanic looked at it and told me I was done. The crank was hard to turn and I risked damaging the frame if I continued. This is my ride data: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/209913897 I should be back in the area soon, I need to finish my 200k! |

Yay for cooler weather! I managed 18 miles today, getting on the Confluence Trail, then crossing the Clark Bridge into the State of Missouri! I visited the bird sanctuary and went up the observation tower, and a vulture came in and perched on the railing THREE FEET FROM ME! He left when I said "Hello!" to him/her, though.
Today was a day of personal firsts for me, crossing the Mississippi, crossing State lines, having a vulture get up close and personal with me, bicycling so close to the flowing Mississippi that I could take a foot out of the pedal and dip it in the water if I wanted. Today was a great day, and my chain is telling me it's time to change it now. :p Edit: Now with 50% more pictures... ;) Missouri welcomes me! http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=267153 Looking back whence I came. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=267151 What!? Lincoln was in a DUEL!?!? With SWORDS!?! Maybe he WAS a vampire slayer! http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=267150 Literally two seconds after I took this photo while standing on the observation deck, this honking huge VULTURE flew in and perched on the guardrail three feet to the left of me! I could see the fine details of the skin on his/her bald head. I wish I'd taken a picture instead of saying "hello"... :D http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=267152 Edit: And here's a composite panorama that I've inexpertly stitched together. Ignore the shadows pointing different directions! :) http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=267203 |
Did 31 miles on a beautiful morning with a lot of hill work. I was inspired by watching the Tour of Utah. Just hurt watching them go over Eagle Pass. Bad news was as I was rounding a hill by my home I heard something pop and it jammed my rear wheel. Broke a spoke on my Dura Ace C24 wheels. Hope my LBS has them in stock or I'll have to put my RS10's on.

Went camping at Big Basin, and took the bike along. Did 25 miles yesterday morning through the Santa Cruz mountains. Recovery was a great campfire breakfast afterwards.

GRREEAATT ride today http://app.strava.com/rides/18289655TT Started in the San Bernard River valley and NE to the edge of Beasly TX and then thru downtown Needville, TX and back to the BAR-BOB Ranch. Body parts and bike worked well together.

My Usual 30 mile, wilderness MUP ride in some decent temps and decreased humidity. All in all, a great ride. Now if only the path by the footbridge wasn't flooded, I could get back to my normal ride times.
|
I took the mountain bike out this morning, rode a little over 20 miles, mostly on the back roads. I did take an old gravel road through the forest for about 5 miles. The bugs seem to have lessened some from a few weeks ago, and the humidity is down a bit here today. I had a nice ride.
|
Got in an afternoon ride, felt really good and kept a nice fast cadence with a good pace, even on the slight rises. Temp was 90*F and moderate humidity. Clouding up for a thunderstorm now.

28 miles Sunday. Rode up to and hung out with mama Deer and a couple of her kids. Also crossed paths with a very big wild turkey. 23 miles yesterday afternoon.
|
Muscles seemed tight and still a bit sore(from the water park--swiming, wave pool). I did a leisurely 30 mile ride. Funny thing is that the leisurely easy pace would've been my best pace a few months ago.
|
Got in 33 miles before the rain started. Had to use my backup wheel after breaking a spoke yesterday and waiting for it to be fixed. Only problem was my backup wheel is geared for Florida with A 11-23 cassette. Not great for the hills in NY.

Had a good ride early this afternoon to try to beat the afternoon's thunderstorm however it started while I was out, so I cut things short. I do not like lightning at all.

Took the new carbon fiber CX bike on it's maiden ride. 30 miles in 1:40 of moving time. Great ride and a very comfortable bike.

Sunday, I went for an easy going 17 mile ride with my husband.
Today, I rode over to my folk's house to stay with my Dad until his exercise guy came, then I did a fast one hour ride while he was there with Dad, then when my Mom got back, I pedaled home. |
8 miles on the tandem with my stoker this evening.
|
Checking in after, lurking, looking, riding a little. So yeah, just got back 5 miles, all gentle low hills, no level. Temp dropping quickly from 98-100 into the upper 80's as the sunsets. Feels great, lard and flab slowly diminishing. Circulation working.
"Even Dwarfs Start Small" Credit this thread for my ride. Thank you !!! |
