Had a nice, dry ride this afternoon, thunderstorm was early today, 1100. 84*F when I was riding, comfortable.

12 very local miles this evening - circled around and did the only real hill in the area (a very modest hill) twice.

Started at 0800 with my usual group. Left them sipping coffee at the halfway point and rode with cyclist who had joined us. He peeled off near home and I continued 10 or 12 more miles to mine. Woodland to Davis to Winters to Dixon to Davis to Woodland. All finished before it was too hot. Great riding with a mix of people, styles and speeds. 62 miles.

Did 20 miles this eve on the urban bike and the local MUPs. Very moderate temperatures the last couple of days so a very enjoyable ride. :D

73 miles to the Jersey Shore. Outstanding day!

28 miles Friday afternoon, I think. Lost wheel magnet for computer. Was a beautiful day. Rode the d'Arienzo. Sweet, smooth ride.

Set out at 0630 this morning with a friend, before the rain chance climbed. It's now 1000 and there are reds/yellows starting to show up on the statewide radar, although not in my immediate locale just yet. Nice 30 mile ride at an easy 15.x MPH average. While we didn't stop to smell the roses, we did stop and smell a bit of Diesel as the daily freight train passed. :)

Oh yeah, the usual local dog pack 'welcomed' us as we rode through their jurisdiction, but they were content this time to just express their displeasure and let us ride on... :twitchy:

Another milestone 38.8 mi @ 13.5. When it comes to distance I am improving weekly - but speed! Can't seem to get over 13.5 on longer rides. Headwind on last ten miles didn't help.

jppe 08-18-12 10:41 AM

65 miles with about 3500 ft of climbing-averaged about 18 mph. When I'm on the bike I wish I wasn't carrying this extra weight as it really hurts on the hills. When I'm sitting in the Mexican restaurant with chips, salsa and margaritas in front of me I turn into a Honeybadger.......

Started off a nice, sunny morning with blue skies; perfect for our Saturday morning club ride. Seven miles into the ride and all hell broke loose. Heavy winds with one heck of a downpour. Waited for it to let up and headed back only to get caught by the second wave of thunderstorms. Usually, these come late in the afternoon but the second wave came with some nasty lightning. Got in 14 miles that actually turned out to be kinda fun.

Small 40 mile breakfast ride today - my stoker and I on our tandem and 10 others on single bikes. Just enough hills to make things interesting with a couple of them pretty challenging. Perfect weather!

Yay! I did 29.4 miles today. I lined up most of the morning and afternoon to myself, and pedaled up the Confluence Trail, then on to the Sam Vadalabene River Road Trail, and pedaled all the way up to Piasa Creek before turning around and coming back.

On the down side, I didn't expect the Sam Vadalabene Trail to be in such poor shape. The drainage pouring slimy muddy water across the start of the trail was fair warning, and boy did I wish I had fenders! That was one huge lot of thumps and bumps along that section of trail.

Did a nice fast ride this afternoon ahead of the daily T'storm. Temps stay nice here, 81*F and I am used to 93-99 right now. Even the humidity is down for us. Ride was super, saw another cyclist headed the other direction, she waved and I returned the salute.

Did a quick 15 miles this afternoon as a prep for tomorrow's 3/4 century ride. Temps in the low 80s and moderate winds. Great ride!

I did a 8 mile loop on the FG over rolling hills while Apache had his breakfast and played in his room for a bit, then the two of us grabbed the Opie and rode into Zionsville to checkout the Farmer's Market. I actually broke one of my cardinal rules though and rode the last three miles on a sidewalk because there is just no margin avalable and we were causing many of the drivers a great deal of trouble as they had to pass us one car at a time even though they were coming from both directions. We scored some awesome Habenaro, Jalapeno, and Bell Peppers and some killer Jalapeno cheeses, as well as some other produce and baked goods, and then we stopped to get a Gyro at this tiny little market. With sandwich and a bottle of water in hand we roda out to Lion's Park where I scarfed down the Gyro and he climbed up about 40-45 feet in a tree. After an hour or so we headed home through the backroads at a leisurely pace and just enjoyed the beautiful day.

I probably only got in about 40-45 miles total but I really enjoyed the leisurely pace of the second ride, and the time hanging out with the bird.

40.4 miles this morning in 2 hours 12.5 minutes.

Wonderful thing about starting at 5AM is there's no traffic to even bother mentioning--especially on a Sunday.

Barrettscv 08-19-12 09:19 AM

49 miles this morning. Perfect weather, 60 to 70f. calm air and partly cloudy skies.

No rain this morning, so the wife and I headed for the MUP to find the parking lot almost full at 7:00 AM. Lots and lots of people there today because of the all day rain we had yesterday. Not a very fast ride today, due to the crowd and some flooding, but I did get in my 30 miles with a not so bad of a time of just at two hours.

Great ride with the Phoenix Metro BC yesterday. About 40 miles plus another 26 total to/from the starting point. The main lead group started with about 20 riders and at at the end, there were only 6-7 left. The heat, the humidity and the pace made for a wicked filter. I was sooooo thankful with we hit the breakfast stop at the end of the ride itself.

I did a solo metric century (100 km, or 63 miles) today. I am very pleased with how my cycling fitness has progressed. In May, I rode in an organized metric century and was wiped out by the end. Today, I was only mildly tired. I could have ridden quite a bit further.

I have signed up for a true century ride in September, so I am increasing the length of my long Sunday ride every week. If today's ride is any indication, I think I should be prepared for a century.

RaymondK43 08-19-12 02:46 PM

7.5 miles yesterday, 7.5 miles today.

qcpmsame 08-19-12 03:00 PM

I got in a nice ride this afternoon. Thunderstorms were early today so things were only wet with no rain or wind, save a slight head wind on the west bound sections. Temps were very mild when I rode, 78*F and moderate humidity. Held a moderate effort and was spinning the cranks.

I did what was billed as a 3/4 century today. Actual length 72 miles and it took me just under 5 hours actual elapsed time including stops. The ride started off at a nice cool 64 deg. F and never got much higher than the low 80s. After all of the excess heat this summer, a mild chill in the air at the start was most welcome. This is the longest ride of my 50+ cycling career and right now my legs feel pretty shredded. I will probably go out this evening for a quick spin around the neighborhood at a high cadence just to make sure that the kinks are all worked out. Still a lot of fun.
