Yesterday's rolling hills and heat must have kicked my butt more than I realized. I started this mornings ride and my legs were getting really tired at my normal pace. Slowed it down to around 15-16 mph and rode pretty much the entire 30 miles on the aerobars. I guess I need to pull the massager out of the closet tonight.

Bikey Mikey 04-03-12 03:47 PM

23 miles this morning.

We did about 9.5 miles on the tandem, over to Harris Cyclery to get my stoker/sweetie a new helmet and to order a front rack in anticipation of some short touring/camping trips this summer.

JanMM 04-03-12 07:56 PM

10 miles on the Screamer with wife/stoker this evening.

Attended the mtb shop ride last night. Road about 1 1/4 hours at a local city park. This park has mostly easy trails, with a couple of mildly technical trails and one truly technical. When I got home, I saw 2 long scratches on my left leg and the side of the knee hurt, but I don't remember either of those hurts happening - they must have been when I on got hung up in a V between two rocks, bike went to the left and I went to the right, on the most difficult trail.

This was from Sunday's ride, crossing the Potomac River at Whites Ferry, MD over to Leesburg, VA:

Here's the load-in of the Gen. Jubal A. Early Ferry from the VA side:

Part of a "recovery" ride that went longer than I planned after a hard ride on Saturday. Remind me to keep off the bike path on a weekend:

23 miles this morn.

Absolutely great cycling weather for today's 30 mile ride. Not as hot as yesterday and the winds didn't pick up until I was almos t done with my ridde. Legs were still a little tired, but gave me no problems while riding. Tomorrow is my off day for the week, then two more riding days followed by a week off the bike for a vacation.

No riding today, saw the Podiatrist about a sore on my foot (pre-diabetic) and got put in one of those plastic boots when I'm home . A good podiatrist, though. He had me cut the toe out of an old pair of shoes so I could still cycle , but not today .

26+ miles with 1000' of climbing. This is an annoying time of year weather-wise. I'm just waiting to ditch the arm warmers, but 50 degrees and windy isn't quite warm enough; we're having unseasonably cool weather. Several of the miles are through a low pass in the hills that funnels the wind. They you make a 90 deg. right turn and the wind is still exactly in your face:(. However, any day I can get out on the bike for 20-30 iles is a good day:)

Took the rebuilt Road Bike out to the hardware store and on the way home saw two other 'old' guys on road bike so rode with them out to the 4h park and back about 14 miles total. The Spinergy wheels, New Shimano stuff and STI levers from the 90 are a BIG jump for me. The bike is a Roberts Criterium bike from the 70's made into to a road bike with PX-10 parts and then some Sun Tour and Dia Comp. Last week a friend gave me all his old stuff. Pix on the blog.

Did my usual 25mi round-trip commute. Rode the Bianchi. Awesome bike. Wonderful weather too. I wore fleece pants this morning but byt the time I got off the train and started riding the temperature was up enough so I didn't need them.

But why?

Never mind. One of the forum fuss budgets might rag on me for urinating in others' Cheerios.

Did 16 miles today and was horrified to discover that the hammerheads have found my training loop on Strava and intend to blow my record to smithereens. Bummer.

JanMM 04-04-12 07:29 PM

10.5 miles this evening. Continue to be surprised to be averaging in the 16's on my rides, which is an increase from last year.
Got a couple of 'cool bike' shout-outs from kids today - that's a regular occurrence with the long wheelbase 'bent. When those same kids get their drivers licenses they will lose interest in all things bicycle-related.

Didn't ride yesterday due to a stomach bug getting the best of me. Coming out of both ends, made for interesting mental pictures. Tuesday was a good ride, Went out between thunderstorms moving through our area. A bit if a cross wind but nothing serious. Feeling much better today, will ride after bid openings and a scheduling meeting.

Lack of riding lately showed in our ride this morning, especially coming back into a stiff headwind with the usual punishment of the hill at the end (we live at the top of it). Still, riding along the ocean with huge waves crashing on the rocks made the 44km most enjoyable but we really most get out more.

Almost 80 miles the hard way. Two flats and the front derailiure wouldn't go to the big gear without help. By the way there are two #4s on the map. Any idea what for?
