It is at the pace that I set. Just an easy ride with few hills.

Thanks Dudel. You're in my territory. I'll work on that avatar thing. Maybe looking at surgery.

Got out for my weekly short hill climb on the BRP this evening. I still find it hard to believe that I'm riding in my summer kit at 6000' in March. It's usually not any warmer up there in June. I had a good ride though, taking 4:30 off my last time. I'm still about 5 min from where I'd like to be but it will come along with time. Beautiful ride up there.

Rode to and from work today: 21 miles in just about perfect 60+ degree weather.

Felt tired, probably the stomach virus my wife and son had earlier this week getting on my back. I rode the usual out and back but easy pace in the big ring. Glad I rode, I felt better afterwards, just nauseated.

23 miles.

Didn't ride today, because I rode Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and every single one of those days I had a massive headwind for the entire ride regardless of what direction I travelled!!!

I was going to go and ride two counties over and work some hills but I got up too late and decided to ride at my usual wilderness MUP. I wish I had gone and rode the hills. I did my usual 30 miles but it was not an enjoyable ride. Way too many slow downs and almost dumped the bike 4 times during the first lap trying to avoid collisions with unsupervised, small children.

Rant:

A nearby school decided to bring it's students to the park for a nature bike ride (or something). Probably 50 or 60 kids ranging from ages 6 to 12/13 and little to no supervision from the parents and/or chaperones. For almost all of my first lap, there were 6 year old kids riding by themselves with no adult in site. They actually lost one of the kids and had to call the Sheriff's Office out. The deputy that came out and did an initial search was about to call out the bike patrol for some help when another rider found the child coming out of the woods and called it in. I decided early into the first lap to just do a nice slow ride since each time I picked up speed and went around a turn, there were a bunch of kids scattered everywhere. I was going to write a letter to the parks and recreation office and complain about it but the ranger had told me that he already talked to the outing's coordinator and told her that if they came out to do this again, they would have to have enough adults to watch the kids. I would expect something like this on a Saturday or Sunday morning but this is the first time in over two years that I've been riding here that there have been this many kids on the path during a weekday.

End Rant:

41.5 miles today on the tandem with a respectable amount of climbing, maybe 2000'. This was a modified "pie" ride. We stopped for lunch at 32 miles: French Toast sandwich = sourdough french toast, 4 slices of bacon, two eggs over medium. Not typical ride fare, but very, very yummy.

jimmuller 03-30-12 07:08 PM

Only half of my regular bike commute today, about 12.5 miles. A work crisis meant someone had to drive me to the train station or I would have missed it. That's okay though. The really stiff cold headwind made the morning leg plenty of work for today.

25 miles and stop at the LBS for a "creaking" noise, was advised it might be my "seat post", LOL, that's a new one on me! ;) finished the ride, went home and lightly greased different contact points on the unit that hold the seat and the large bolt so we will see if that's the FIX or weither it goes back to the shop.

deanofmac 03-30-12 09:25 PM

Critical Mass ride today. Counting the 4 mile round trip to the meeting place I did 8.8 miles.

Wait, spoke too soon: When I got home from work last night it was such a nice evening that I had to pull out the bike! Did a semi-easy 10 miles

...and yes, it was still windy! But only from one direction this time.

My brother came to the house, early this morning, with his bike so the wife and I took him to the wilderness park and we did a 15 mile slooooow ride. I took the hybrid because it wouldn't have been fair to take the road bike and only go 8-9 mph. In fact, I don't know if the Colnago can go that slow? :D

Dudelsack 03-31-12 11:12 AM

In March I rode 307 miles, which is a PR for the month and one of my best months ever.

Today, I got nuthin'. I rode around the block a couple of times. Saving energy for Götterdämmerung (Cats vs Cards).

NealH and I met at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, NC to ride up to the top of Mt Mitchell, the highest point in the Eastern U.S. We left a bit after 8:30am on wet roads, though the rain had stopped. Temps were in the upper 50s but would fall as we ascended. The forecast was for the clouds to push on and the valley temps to get to the mid 70s. Well as you can see in the picture below that didn't happen and when we got to the closed visitor center at Craggy Gardens the wind was blowing pretty hard, it was very foggy and the temp had dropped to 45º. Being in shorts and light arm warmers made it pretty cold and with very low visibility we decided to cut our loses and head back down. The first 7 miles down was quite chilly even with the added vest and we were glad to make it back to the car where temps were 20º higher. It was a good climb though, always one of my favorites, and Mitchell will still be there the next time we ride over that way.

It was foggy here in the morning, too. I probably went out too early - took 1.5 hours to clear. My glasses fogged and was wet which limited my vision. No problem because I was on familiar roads...I thought. I noticed a section of road had a lot of dirt and gravel spilled on it until I realized the road surface had been removed! My 1/4 mile private Paris-Roubaix.

A nice 45 miler with a dirty bike cleanup after.

berner 03-31-12 04:27 PM

Rode 49.8 miles yesterday of which one hour was through a state forest, some of it paved and some of it on dirt roads. This ride sort of takes me back to my boyhood where all the riding was on dirt roads. Did not see a soul for an hour. That bit of solitude kept my hermit gene satisfied. This has been my longest ride in 2012 so the legs were aware of every mile during the last 10. Feel good today but I slept a bunch. I'm slowly getting stronger and faster but I'm also getting older.

Dudelsack 03-31-12 05:07 PM

Good game so far. Cards heavy underdogs but they're not lying down.

missjean 03-31-12 05:14 PM

Commute to/from work today, 29 mlies. It was 40* when I left the house this morning and about 3/4ths of the way in, there were snow flurries.
As I left the shop this evening, my front tire went flat in the parking lot, so back into the shop to change the tire. There was a tiny wire poking through the tire. On one of the back roads I saw a nice flock of turkeys. Those birds are big!

8.5 mile ride today on the Screamer; first bike ride for wife/stoker since having a painful great toe joint fixed in January. No more pain. We're aiming for 1000 tandem miles this year so we'll be picking it up as we get further into Spring.

DnvrFox 03-31-12 09:22 PM

Wife (74) and I rode 9 miles- her longest this year. I continued another 5 miles. Beautiful day, 100;s of folks out. All friendly, and everuone passing us said "on your left." Pedestrians were courteous, dogs on leashes. Great little ride.
