Friday 4/2, my first outing of the year, barring a few errand runs in town last week. 22 miles, Ann Arbor to Dexter, Michigan. Speedo wasn't working, but my HR stayed below 145, climbing the bigger hills went smoother than I thought, and I know the speed wasn't real low because the bike remained easy to keep in a straight line, so I'm pleased about this start. With this ride and the errands, and the planned 40 miler for today (Sunday 4/4), I'll have a 70 mile week. In 15 weeks I'll need to go 350 miles in a week.
This bike had a 53/39 with 14/28. I've just changed it to a 50/34, still with the 14/28. Will change to a 13/28 if I really need the upper end speed (104 inches). A 12 would give 113 inches, which is higher than I need and wasteful of gear range.
Early temp here in Ann Arbor was 38 F. Mrs Road Fan went out for her morning 8-mile loop, but I'm waiting for warmer and will take a longer ride.

Rode 33 miles of the Pedalmentalist Easter service this afternoon (a club ride). Beautiful weather for a ride in the county except a bit windy. Averaged almost 20mph on the mostly-north first part but had to struggle to stay above 12 mph heading south into the wind. Ended up at 16.95 average, which is good by my standards. The new bike does seem well-suited for flat-to-rolling rural rides, what with the loooong steel frame and dual 26" wheels with fat (1.5") tires; just floats over irregularities and less-than-perfect surfaces - the high BB gives an aero edge and I need every edge I get find.

I rode to my parents' house for Easter dinner with the family and then took the long way home. Total of 50 miles on a warm and sunny day. I probably inhaled a few pounds of yellow pollen. It is all over everything here nowadays. But the flowers sure are pretty.

It's been VERY windy for a while, I got a case of cabin fever and headed out today anyway! 27-30 mph. steady winds and 39-45 mph. gust's. LOL, man do I SUCK in the WIND. Part of my 21 mile ride today was on the paved, Pike Peak Greenway Rail Trail, just heading down a hill and hit the brakes, a HUGE tree had been knocked down by the wind gust's and covered the whole trail! Had to backtrack to the street and worm my way back on the trail via the new "water treatment plant", (yikes)! Got back on and headed up the trail to Criterium Bicycles, which is a nice shop, that's "right on the trail", stopped in for a break, filled up the waterbottle and picked up some more "Sport Beans" (by Jelly Belly), it's the only "boost" stuff I can stomach, the rest of the different stuff tastes like crud or flavored bark to me!!
Headed up the trail past the shop to the Monument Creek Trail Junction, turned off the trail on the access road, back to the shop and back on the PPGWT heading south, thru my new found emergency path and headed home, the WIND never let up so it felt like a headwind really no matter which way you went. Still it beat riding on the "Trainer" any day!

62.7 miles today. Pleasant temperature, 53* at start and 66* when I ended the days ride. I wish the weather would be the same tomorrow. Used 2 bikes to achieve 62.7 miles. 16.1 on primary which I took for it's first tune up this morning and 46.6 on the backup/beater bike.

A nice 30 mile ride with my son-in-law from Canaan, New York to Stockbridge, Mass. Used the new Google Maps bicycle route feature:
https://maps.google.com/maps?hq=https:...p-na-us-gns-bd
Only bad spot was a very steep grade around 3 miles into the ride. Had to walk my bike up and down (loose gravelly surface for a road bike and too steep for me). Nice to see the stone marker stateline as we entered Massachusetts. Stockbridge and West Stockbridge very charming towns. Sorry, forgot to bring a camera.

First outdoor ride of season. A short 15 mile road ride on the hybrid. Mainly clear on roads with occasional puddle, ice or snow patch. Didn't attempt any of the paths since the ones I saw had lots of snow and ice yet.

Got out for a short ride on the BRP today. I did two 20 minute Z3 intervals on a 4% grade. Beautiful day up at 5000' in the low 70s. It is much warmer in town, 86º currently. That has to be a record.

Did my first "almost" 90F (~31C) ride of the season today (only 27 miles). Temps are way too warm for the first week of April. Should be low to mid 70s (~23C).

Rode 27 miles with the local bike club. It was their first ride of the season. Clear, 70's windy and some really tired riders at the end.

Rode the regular 30 mile loop with the club. This time I made the B group start and rode with them for 23 miles before I got tired and let them drop me on a hill. Good ride and one of my better times on this loop.

45 miles today. Rio Hondo, LA river bed, shore line village to Seal Beach Pier. Lots of people at the Pier because of spring break. 72 degrees, 7 to 10 mph wind going, 20 to 25 on the return trip. Had not ridden in about two weeks because i felt tired, so i rested until today and felt strong the entire trip. Maybe i just needed to take a break. Sunny with a few clouds. Lost 4 pounds.

When I embarked on my last trip last Wednesday, I threw the bike in the truck for the first time this year, assured by the weather man that good weather was on the way. Well, scheduling and sporadic bad weather at exactly the wrong times conspired to keep the bike safely ensconsed in the upper berth until last night, the last night out before returning home.
I had been playing around in Quebec for a couple of days, and stopped just on the Ontario side of the border to spend the night.
The Waterfront Trail is about 100 yards from the 401 highway at that point, and runs right past the truck stop where I stayed.
Riding east about 2 km, and you enter Quebec, and the Waterfront Trail becomes La Route Vert.

Seeing that sign made me want to just keep on going for days, but alas, I had to settle for 20km.
