I took the old Motobecane Grand Touring out on Saturday on my first ride in a couple of months since I crashed and injured my knee. I just did a quick 11 miles after a funeral because that's the time I had available. It was brutally hot, but the knee was pain free! I was starting to wonder about the tires holding up on the very hot concrete roads.

Time to start spending more time on the saddle!

40.32 miles in 2hr 35min on my new Giant Anyroad Advanced. I'm starting to stretch out my miles since getting the Anyroad, kinda sorta training for our upcoming charity ride in September hoping to be ready to do the 62 or 100 mile route. I'll decide which as the date gets closer.

19 miles as a bike commuter today. Sprinkles off and on riding home but not a problem!

25 miles yesterday, torrential downpour for the last 2. Still a nice ride.

Home before noon and less than 20 easy miles has been the routine for 3 days running. Sometimes, the same bike with butyl tubes that hold pressure makes me 10 min faster bypassing choices, shuffling bikes and pumping tires. Let me look for a pic.
If you only ride one, titanium with triple and 28s is pretty good. Pic chosen for heat wave sufferers!!!

edit: can’t get pic below text. Hehehehehe, maybe I should put it in the How Hot is It thread,

42 mile sun-baked ride through open farm country. Getting low on water I stopped at a state park and was told the only water they had was “heavily chlorinated” so I took a pass. Later, on a near-deserted stretch two young boys selling lemonade appeared by the side of the road. What luck!

Very nice weather in Indy today. Dry in the 60's AM and 80's in the PM. Favorable winds on the ride home, too. 21 miles total.

23 miles Tuesday evening. Weather finally cooled off to just under 100F. Felt sluggish and wheezy but my speed/time actually wasn't too bad. Sorta makes me wonder whether I'm slacking off on days when I feel pretty good and maybe could have been faster.

About 100' from where I crashed.
Air quality was 98 this morning, but the North wind blew the smoke from the forest fires away and it dropped to 50 something (almost good) 101 t0 150 is is hazardous to older adults and children. Doesn't say anything about older adults who act and think like children. The scale goes up to 301-500 which is rated deadly. I rode 48 Miles, would have been more, but I went endo at 20 mph descending a steep s curved hill. I took my eyes off the road for just 2-3 seconds, looked up and I was heading right off the road. I scrubbed off 10 mph before I was off the road in deep gravel. I was able to stay upright, but my bike wouldn't steer or slow in the deep gravel. I was heading for a stout wood fence when the front wheel dug in and I found myself upside down. I remember landing on my back then ended up in a siting position with by bike at my feet. I felt around and all my limbs were still attached. Had the wind knocked out of me, but the 3-4 inches of gravel really saved my ass. I sat there looked at the bike for damage and other than the left brake/shifter which was 4" out of place everything was good. So sat there for 5 minutes when a young woman stopped and asked if I was OK. Even went back to her car for a first aid kit. I only had a scratch on my ankle and was bleeding near my eye for a minute from a cut from my sunglasses. My back was sore but I was OK. Got up and walked my bike to the top of the hill then rode a few miles to a State Park which is one of my regular stops. Sat a short while then started up the 6 miles with 3 miles of steep hill the rest with less steep parts in there to recover on. Some middle aged rider on a very fancy Trek with SRAM red, wireless shifting. asked If I was OK, I said yes and he rode off, but soon turned around and rode with me all the way to the top and to my daughter's house. She's a nurse and her husband is a MD. I asked him if I was going to live, he looked me up and down and said probably. I thanked the man who rode with me and went in and sat with my daughter for 15 minutes. Then said I had to go home before I stiffened up. She wanted to drive me, but I said I'd feel better on the bike, it is mostly down hill to my place. So now I'm siting here feeling OK. very glad for that deep gravel I landed on. I guess I have an excuse to buy a fancy new MIPS helmet now.

Glad you’re in one piece! 2-3 seconds can be a long time to take your eyes off the road.

I have not been keeping up with this very well. 20 miles this morning before work

Bob Ross 07-25-18 10:31 AM

21 miles this morning...the last 13 of them in an absolutely torrential downpour. :(

John_V 07-25-18 11:44 AM

Rained until 0900 when the sun came out and the skies turned blue. Jumped on the bike hoping to do at least 40 but shooting for 50. 7 miles in, it's very dark and raining pretty hard. Got back to the parking lot where the van is at and waited under some cover to pack things up and go home. 10 minutes later, it's stopped raining, the skies are blue and the sun is out again. Since I'm already wet, I opted to go for another lap around the park. Three miles out and the sun disappears. Half the sky is blue the other half becoming gray. Turned around and came back. Packed it up and went home with 20 miles.

PhoenixBiker 07-25-18 05:42 PM

Not the longest ride so far this year, but definitely the fastest. 13.94 miles in 1 hour, 0 minutes and 26 seconds. Starting to get my old legs (and saddle tolerance) back. Sixteen years is a long time to be off the bike.

You're allowed to take a day a two off from riding, if you wish. Hope you're not too sore.

According to the weather forecast and my Weather.com app this morning, we had a 0% to 5% chance of rain this morning. Wife and I headed out to the park, got started on our rides and .... you guessed it! I got in 7 miles and she got in 2. Normally, our thunderstorms come in the late afternoon. I can't remember when the last time was that we had all this rain in the morning. I guess Mother Nature likes to pi$$ us off every once in a while.

22 miles at 6 am today to avoid the almost 100 degree temps this afternoon - enjoying the ride and feel of the 1975 Gitane Olympic

Bob Ross 07-26-18 10:17 AM

Commuted to work...though once again, so I could bring my bike into the shop (shifting got munged after a gust of wind blew the bike over onto the driveside) so it wasn't a particularly fun ride.

27 miles this morning...a little shake down of new riding shoes. Verrrry happy with these new Giro leather shoes.
I ordered/scooped up a second pair since they are 50% off. I should be good for awhile.

Had a nice ride going until wasp hit right ear and left a calling card that is still stinging 6 hours later. Had to cut the ride, Official Pete Cornell Memorial Ride, short and rolled back into garage with 130 miles.

Rotten 07-26-18 05:59 PM

13 miles pre work, then I got to go home early so instead of going straight home I took 'the long way' and rode another 15 miles. A good day.

Reminds me of this chart.

Once this week. Thunderstorms are keeping me off the road. It's driving me nuts. Maybe tomorrow, but Sunday morning for sure.
