Yes, 8 mile climb 2300 ft gain. Nice day, cool and some sunshine, perfect for the climb.

A couple days ago to the library in fairly foul weather, still misting after rain, gusty and cold. The people at the desk gave me the look that said "you must be crazy, riding in this weather." (I was returning The Hobbit, Disk 1 and Disk 2. Disk 1 put me to sleep and I almost sent them both back without watching any more, but Disk 2 was totally worth it. Things picked up greatly with the addition of a dragon. I still have Disk 3 to look forward to.)

Today a hill workout in the neighborhood after dark. I was going to head out later for more but I saw that my seat post was badly bent, with a clear dimple on the back side at the bend. I knew it was already slowly bending but when I climbed on this time I was sliding toward the back of the seat. The good news is I now know how much setback I need for my replacement post, and the answer is two inches, since that's how far back this one is bent, and that feels about right, once I leveled out the seat again. The bad news is no seated riding until I get a replacement. And, that two-inch setback is hard to find.

Saturday: 47 mile road ride, mostly solo; I was joined by two friends for miles 3-12
Sunday: 40 mile mixed dirt/pavement group ride with five other people
Today: Apparently it snowed last night? Not riding.

Ten miles this Christmas Eve afternoon. Low 40's but sunny.

how does a seat post get bent and still maintain it’s integrity?

You're right, it totally doesn't. That's a dead seatpost.

If you're asking why I rode on it at all once I saw it was bent at all, fair point, but I wanted to see if it would equilibriate and tell me something about fit. And it was more of a gentle curve at first. But mainly because I've been planning on retiring this bike anyway which is why I didn't want to just get a new seatpost once I saw the problem. I have another bike that I've been working on as my permanent bike, but it's not ready yet, and now I'm out of time so I'll be getting that seatpost now anyway.

I had a good ride this morning, but it was a light ride. I rode 32 kms, up to Holetown and back. The weather was lovely, and the traffic was light.

Nice Over the Hills, through the Woods, and Across the River ride to the in-laws house at the lake. Another 50 mile post hip replacement ride, slow and steady. Perfect winter day, temperatures in the 40s. You have to love the stillness and serenity that calm winter days like today bring.

l love cows. They said “Happy MOOIE Christmas” as I pedaled by.

Rain stopped and it reached 50 degrees today! Only got in 15 K but a quiet ride. Passed only two houses on an 8k stretch (and zero cars). Now that is country riding! Didn't stop long enough to get a parking ticket though.

Christmas Day: 19 mile road ride with the missus
Christmas Day +1: 39 mile road ride with the missus
Christmas Day +2 (today): no

18 miles yesterday at 54 degrees in sunny N. GA. Rural roads for the most part and no real traffic until about 4pm. At that point the temps had dropped to 51 and I was glad I had gone back to the car for my arm warmers and lightweight gloves. By the way, tried my second shot of SIS Gels. Horrible swill! I love almost all the other brands but am finding that the blah taste and really thin viscosity of SIS gels don't work for me at all.

17 miles Thursday evening, mostly checking out the re-gearing -- 50/39 chainrings and 13-24 freewheel. Seems okay. I'd rather have a 13-25 or 13-28 but it's getting harder to find good quality freewheels that are compatible with my older bike's Suntour Accushift system. Easier to change chainrings.

18 miles today on my very last day as a Bike Commuter. Monday is a PTO day and New Year's Day is the start of my retirement. Haven't been much of a cold weather commuter in recent years but have biked to work 4 times this December. Mother Nature cooperated today so that my final day at the hospital could be what my first day was 32+ years ago: a bike commuting day.

It was a cold morning but the sun was out and so clear that the view of The City and the Bay Bridge was awesome:

Too hot to ride here

I am managing to get 20Km a day in despite the heat. Down here in Australia we are heading for our hot spell; last couple of days been mid 30s (C) with a hot northerly wind and we had one day at 39.5C.

42 miles Friday night -- 24 of those to and from the local Critical Mass (really just a casual group ride, only a dozen folks tonight). Chilly, down into the high 30s, but pleasant after I cracked open a chemical toe warmer packet. Took the Univega Via Carisma, which is morphing into a proper city bike. I prefer it for group rides in the city. I save the road bike for faster rides around the rural areas and low traffic access roads.

Incredible today... The 29th of December, here in Richmond, Virginia and the temp is an amazing 64°F outside!!! EVERYBODY was outside this afternoon!! :D

Like dozens of other bicyclists, I took full advantage of the day, and got home a while ago from a nice and easy 15½ mile ride out along River Rd into the suburbs and quiet backroads. Just barely over an hour, like, 1:03 or so on my stopwatch.

Here's a layout of the map from MapMyRide...

Got out for a 7 mile ride this afternoon. Mid-30's and breezy - I'm not a fan of cold weather riding but at least it was above freezing and dry.

BikingTech 12-29-18 04:36 PM

No riding today because I am house sitting and watching two fur babies. I did go on a 22 mi easy ride yesterday. Clear skies but wind picked up making 32F feel like 23. I almost laid the bike down when I rode on a shady part of the road and didn't notice the ice.

zacster 12-29-18 05:08 PM

Was out today for the first time in over a month. I did 13 miles on a 50 degree day. I've been doing indoor training though so I blew by the few serious riders I saw. I've had sciatica and that puts a little bit of a dent in the riding but I find that riding is the only time my leg doesn't hurt.

After a week of 15mph to 25+mph winds and cooler temps. things turned favorable so out again for a Midnight Madness Ride. Had to shorten time out due to heavy fog forming so made it home for a shower, some eats, fresh kit and waited for the sun to rise. Back out and cycled right smack into more fog, PITA. FINALLY cleared and just kept a relaxed pace until quitting time. Segment 1 was 80 miles and segment 2 was 58 miles. Maybe 1 more century before the year ends**********

jppe 12-29-18 07:11 PM

61 miles riding over the in-laws. It was my longest ride since my crash and hip replacement. It was encouraging even though I took the hills easier than normal. I actually felt better on the hills the last 20 miles and did a negative split the last half of the ride.

Trying to guess when my first 100 miler might be. Traditionally we rode 100 miles every Saturday in December.

Finally got out on my new Surly Crosscheck.Bought it for myself for Xmas. Just in time for a week's rain. Off to the beach. Shrimp cocktail for lunch while watching some otters playing. Ride went from bike path to dirt to asphalt and back again. Pretty well what this bike's meant for. Got taller bars with more sweep coming. The mt bikey bars are just too low and straight for me! Old neck fracture that doesn't care for being bent much.....
