76 minutes for a quick morning jaunt on one of my routes around town. I cut it short to beat the incoming bands of rain from Hurricane Harvey. Plus I wanted to mow the lawn before it rained.

Nope - Local music festival with beer and a pfat taco. Penalty five exta miles tomorrow.

12 short but significant miles in the BlueRidge Mtns. I finally got the Giant back late this afternoon after rather extensive repairs, and wanted to test ride it post-surgery. I need to get in hill shape for the Horrible Hundred in Nov, and this is the place to do it. All the roads here end up one way, and that is UP UP UP! I'm certain Finks Hollow is longer and steeper than Sugarloaf, so that'll be my go to Road for the next 6 days while we're in VA.....Great low 60's riding weather, too.

Saturday was my second annual ride-my-age/metric century anniversary since resuming cycling in late August 2015 after almost 30 years off the bike. I rode at least 64 miles, probably a little more but my iPhone battery died a few miles from home. A little above my age (59) but close enough, and a little more than 100 km.
It was much harder than last year, but also a harder route and faster pace. The weather was unusually cool and overcast due to Hurricane Harvey, and not much wind until the end of the ride. Then I finished the last 10 miles into 20-25 mph head winds and driving rain. I'd planned to ride with a fast local club's B group, which I'd ridden with once before earlier this summer. I could handle the 14-15 mph pace. But on Saturday's planned 50 mile ride they set a much faster pace, 16-18 mph and they were all much stronger climbers. I could tell within the first 10 miles and two climbs I wouldn't be able to keep up, so I dropped out and took another route. I took a variation of the same hilly route they choose, but one that was more familiar to me so I knew how to pace myself. The first 30 miles went well, but I was gassed out from the too-fast pace the first 10 miles. It was a real struggle to finish. Had to stop a few times with lower back cramps from a recent injury, which spread into hamstring and quad spasms. I finished with a much longer overall time than I'd planned, so I got into some bad weather. But my ride time average speed was good for me, 15 mph. That's quite a bit faster than last year's 9 mph average. I'd considered tackling a standard 100 mile century next week, before the end of August, but it'll depend on recovery from this ride. And I'll take the hybrid for its triple and better climbing gears. The road bike's 42/24 ain't fit for climbing with my conditioning. |

To Georgetown and back on capital crescent trail. around 14 miles total. Lovely day.

I didn't ride today, but I rode last night for the annual Anthem Moonlight Ride, here in Richmond, VA down at The Diamond (AA minor league baseball stadium), and cruises up and back on various roads that they close down. 8 miles or 15 miles... Parents, kids, grandparents, young & old, everybody from all walks of life. It's awesome and a lot of fun!! :)

110 minutes around town with a few laps up and down one particular recently paved and flat 4 lane road. On Sunday mornings there usually isn't much traffic there.

23.8 miles (38.3k) on the Allez. If the weather would stay this way throughout the winter I'd be a happy camper, er, cycler. Ain't retirement grand?

Today, I rode just about 20 miles (19.8) on my hybrid.
I averaged just over 12 MPH, riding for about 97 minutes. Cool and partly cloudy here today (62 degrees this morning) so excellent weather to go out. My 25 mile charity ride comes up in 2 weeks, looking forward to it. I've never done one before, or even rode in a group.. so this should be interesting. |

Which charity ride? (Riding in a group is a lot of fun. Just don't over-lap anyone's wheel). |
Rained this morning and the A/C stopped working. So when the sun came out around noon, I went for bike ride. Hoping for at least 30 but 15 miles will have to. Started raining a few hundred yards from the parking lot.

Sorry....Because I'm new I my have the terminology wrong.
It's called Maine Lighthouse Ride, and starts and ends in S. Portland. It's a fund raiser for the Eastern Trail Alliance. They are trying to complete a greenway from S. Portland to Kittery. It's sold out, with 1200 riders. Thanks for the tip on staying away from someone's wheel !! |
Keep forgetting this, rode the Raleigh back from my old place to my new place yesterday, thanks to my Kona deciding it didn't like the rear inner tube. Also rode the fixie around my new block a couple of times. . .
|
Went out and got in 22.44 miles checking the road flooding situation from the recent rains. Left after a rain shower and made it back home before a rain shower. By tomorrow morning I'll have to drain my pool again.

Had a great ride this morning with my buddy on Canada Rd. Here's a pic of his bike at Pulgas Water Temple. I brought a Jamis and not pic worthy. :p

23 miles - Soft ride 95+% dirt roads. Sure do miss the pavement and flat land.

44 Miles on another hot smoky day. I don't know if riding in this snoky is going to kill me or not. 94° weather didn't help.
|
Ten local miles on the ti 'bent this afternoon.

I rode the 100k in the Hotter n Hell yesterday in Wichita Falls. I rode an average of 17.1mph placed 11th in my age division and 68th overall. My goal was to ride an average of 15.0mph. Not bad since I just only started riding and exercising 10 months ago. I had planned on riding the 100 mile but had to get my son to his college and had to leave by noon. LOL

40 km for me today. I hauled my dog to a distant park and spent the day goofing off and chasing the ball. We had lunch in the park too.
Started with a tough climb and then a slight incline with a head-wind all the rest of the way there. I was feeling it by the time we arrived. The wind held in my favor though, and the ride home was much easier - and quicker. :thumb: http://backtothewilds.ca/images/cycling/cr-park.jpg |
33 very hilly miles in the BlueRidge Mtns. this afternoon. After tackling Etlan Road, I took a right onto Rt. 600, which snakes past White Oak Canyon Park, then up Berry Hollow Road. This is little more than a very steep paved bike path that has incredible grades (almost unbikeable) that end up at the base of Old Rag Mtn. I bailed after about a mile, but even that proved hard as there was no place to unclip! Great hill practice, and I'm quite sure that Sugarloaf (Horrible Hundred) isn't this bad. Wish I could hang here for a few weeks to get my climbing strength back. Oh, the Giant is a great climber.....stiff and responsive.

Today, no; still recovering from the weekend!
Saturday was a friend's birthday and she wanted to do a Ride Your Age route, so four of us went out for a lovely 56 mile ride with ~3,000 of elevation. (Kudos to my wife, who designed the route; it was exactly 56.00 miles!) And then Sunday I went out solo for what I thought would be a short "recovery ride" but between fighting the headwind and pushing the Point Of No Return farther than I'd originally intended, it wound up being an exhausting 44 miles with 2,500' elevation. Now my knees feel like Gumby's! |
25.9 miles (41.7k) on the mechanical Roubaix. Rotated the tires and blew up a tube (KapoW!) Then for this morning's ride I didn't have the front wheel properly seated and got the smell of heated rubber from the brake pad rubbing against the tire. Duh :foo: brain broken.

Made a nice 32.2 mile ride today on Wrightsville Beach NC. Had a heck of a northern headwind, made for a nice ride back down the island.

Took this beauty out for it's first ride this morning. Did my usual 22.5 mile loop and the bike performed spectacularly.
