24 miles on the road bike Tuesday afternoon. Clear, cool, not as windy as usual lately. Lots of allergy stuff but tolerable. Feeling almost as strong as this time last year.

Got 40 miles in. Heck of a head wind. So far 72 miles for the week. Need to get 30 more to make my 100 miles. Rain in the forecast, looks like the trainer and Zwift.

Wife and I went on a week long cruise from Sunday 3/10 to Sunday 3/17. Prostate cancer blood work on 3/18 meant no riding the exercisers on the ship so just deck walking but did bike 101 miles the day before leaving. Got back on the bike this morning at 12:52AM under a magnificent FULL MOON. Legs did not want to cooperate resulting in a very slow ride even though there was almost no wind but that changed BIG TIME as the miles increased. Started with 6mph winds and had 15+mph at the end. Completed 104.2 miles as I rolled into the garage.

I probably have 1/3 the miles ytd than what I normally have this time of year. Even with a new bike it’s tough finding the motivation to ride. I Actually look for reasons not to ride!?!?! I’ve lost some power and fitness due to the hip replacement. Attempts at riding with my old group were just not fun due to having to chase the group too much. Plus the allergies flared up last week which led to sinus and lung congestion and just not feeling energetic. I’m still walking 5-6 miles a day playing golf so the legs are staying in decent shape.
I have the Bike Florida supported tour starting late next week. I signed up to mainly to get some miles in the saddle. If nothing else it will force me to ride. It will be interesting to see how the hip does on multi day rides......and sleeping on the ground in a tent!!
Anyway, I poked around today for 28 miles and all felt fine. Hopefully I can get in a 60-80 miler this weekend.

Got out on our first midweek tandem ride of 2019, our usual local quickie toot, only 18 miles. We were slow and tired from workouts the past few days, but did manage to sprint the key steep hill on the route, so not a total disaster. Our team hasn't been strong enough to do that one since Nov. 2016. Things are looking up.

BEAUTIFUL bike day on Lake Okeechobee dike yesterday. Cool , sunny and light winds and a plan for 50 miles. Just getting warmed up good and thump thump thump - flat. Found shade, removed wheel, new tube and tools. Should on the way again in ten to fifteen minutes - Right? Tight tire, bead almost touches rim tape. Broke two tire levers trying. Ended up riding flat four miles to next highway access. Home less than five minutes and three Park levers ordered, two day Amazon Prime. Lesson learned - only carry the best and personally tested tools in saddle bag.

Just a quick 6.90 mile spin around the neighborhood to do sort of a "test ride" after my LBS repaired the broken spoke on my C&V '85 Fuji road bike. Everything is absolutely perfect, and I was cruising along at (est.) 16.1 mph speed, as my stopwatch registered 25:48 for 6.90 miles. The LBS seriously lubed and regreased all main components while they had the freewheel off.

20 mi on trainer. Making sure all bike equipment is ready to hit the road in our motorhome and leave Okeechobee headed for Houston. No good long distance riding at most RV park areas so trainer will get a lot of miles between 4/1 and 4/15.

70 miles @13.3mph. Okeechobee dike and hwy 76 to Indiantown and back. Add five more miles sometime in the next couple weeks and I will call myself ready for the 100 miler 5/4 in Shiner, TX. I was tired at the end but except for sore shoulders all body parts felt pretty darn good.

First real ride of the year
Actually, today was my first real ride since I’ve taken up cycling again. 13.13 miles on the W&OD trail. Furthest I’ve ridden on one day since 1963. And I feel really good.
I had several short (2 miles or less) practice and test rides, making adjustments on the bike, practicing mounting, dismounting, shifting, stopping
you know basic skills. But today was why I’d started riding again.
Of of course I’m still on an endorphin high. It will be interesting tomorrow.

Another 82 miles on a beautiful sunny spring day in NC.
These gloves are broken in and super comfortable. It’s the same pair I used extensively on my coast to coast ride in 2016.

About 35 miles in, just another 47 more to go.

This must be a pretty popular road used by cyclists.....very rural and the closest town is miles away.

44 miles on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Intended to go for 50 but after dark a t-storm was blowing in quickly. Rain started just as I got home.
Just back from an hour ride, warm-up for the speed run to the greenway I hope to do later. First shirt-sleeve ride of the year, except for that one weird day in January.
LATER: did the speed run, shaved a minute off my record due to a lot of things other than the rider. I've learned that if you want to get a green light and not sit for four minutes until you decide to run it, then you have to be in the center of the lane (the dead center) and not safely off to the side. Also helpful: when you leave the pavement for the overland segment, cross the ditch at an angle to smooth it out. But I pushed myself too.
Good on ya, mate, very well done.
