Stay the heck out of a forum with the title "50 and Over," and respect your "elders."

in. Sorry. And, yes, I know you spelled elderly correctly the first time. My spell check comment was meant for the other words. The reason I put the quotes ("elderly") around elderly was that some of us have commented in the past that we don't seem "elderly" at all to ourselves, but we (or persons our age) have been called that by some of the younger members.See "What is Elderly?"
Peace and my apologies.

Hey - we now have 72 folks who have self-indicated that they are 50+.
That is impressive to me.
There is an extreme variety of level of participation - all the way from racers to touring folks to commuters to randonneurs to recreational riders to casual riders.
For your enjoyment, 14 of those 50+ have shared their intimate? details about biking with all of us.

Perhaps we shouldn't be too hard on the BMX crowd. The '80s BMX racers that I know are now riding road bikes. They will be using the 50+ forum in 20 years!

I'll be 52 in a couple weeks. Been cycling for 3 years and seem to be in much better physical condition now than I was at 32.

I'm 53 and still automatically throw away mail from AARP. I suppose if there was a 50+ forum, I'd read it.

At 54, I am reaping the rewards of a healthful lifestyle, which I have blessed to share with my wife of 31 years. Although I was "locked in the basement the day they gave out athletic ability," I am now in better cardiovascular shape than many of the jocks in my high school graduating class. Even more impressive is Velo Retro's Chuck Schmidt, who is now recovering steadily from a serious collision with an errant motor vehicle. Before checking his identification, the paramedics estimated his age at 46 instead of 60.

I'm 51, started riding again after a 25 year layoff. I try to put in one 50 mile ride a week on my day off, and ride 10-20 miles on work days either on the road or on the resistance trainer.

Having abused my joints for decades, and needing them now for my physical job, I just found out about Glucosamine Sulfate on this forum.
I see no problem with a forum for 50+ riders.

60+ going on 35 here... I enjoy this forum... Gives me a glimpse of what other riders my age are doing and where I am at.. I try and get at least 10 miles a day on my 74 Raliegh Tourister... Still seems like one of the most confortable bikes I have ridden and both it and I are aging gracefully together

I am 61 and just started biking this spring. I appreciate the 50+ forum because it allowed me to feel less alone in participating in a sport orginally thought to be for the younger set. It is also encouraging to know that some of us are still riding well into our 80s and 90s. Look at how much fun we can look forward to! The example is there. Follow it!

I will be 60 next year and dont intend to give up cycling. A forum for 50+ is an excellent idea. I have learnt much from Joe Freils book especially on endurence and speed. After 2 angioplasties I can definitely say my cycling has improved. Cant beat my 24 yr old son but I am close behind him.
I only have problems seeing near without glasses, so going downhill on my mtb is not a problem but reading maps is. Maybe I'll start a 60+ forum next year.

I'm 51, play hockey three times a week and bike about 80 miles weekly during the fair weather months here in New England. My knees hurt a little, but I can eat whatever the hell I want.

I turned fifty last month, so I am one of the young ones here. My big hobby is skiing, which as we all know is a passive sport for us old-timers who don't snowboard well or often. The really passive part of skiing is waiting at the botttom of the hill for all the young boarders who started with me.

Turned 50 in Jan, a section like this may spark more interest for those just getting back into cycling, don't know for sure but unless it takes up too much room?
I had lost a lot of weight and was riding great, then a new job was thrown at me and I didn't catch it too well and the stress from that put me off my new found eating habits and I fell back into the old rut and have put back on 30 of the 50 pounds I had lost
I need some incentive to get back, my mind is almost there, the job is better now that I have a good handle on what has to be done, Service Engineering type thing. So I want to get back into 32 pants again! NOW!
