When i was 25 i never thought I(me) would get married.sleep more than 3 hours a night, have a meal without a beer(any meal), have 'roids(they are gone now, thanks to the surgeon), weigh more than 160lbs, have 20/15 vision without glasses/contacts, drive a six cylinder 400 hp twin turbo sport car, stay with the same women for 35 years(she hasn't kicked me out yet), ride a bicycle again and wear spandex.

At 25 I never thought I would be starving on the money I used to dream about. (OK, a little exaggeration) Also at 25 I never remotely thought it was possible to be more physically fit at 61, which I am.

I never thought I,
would fly aerobatics in a Soviet military aircraft within sight of the Washington Monument
would fly across the country using GPS navigation and a satellite weather link
would walk into a bicycle shop and not see a single normal bike with a chainguard, fenders, and a rack
would commute over 3,000 miles per year on a bike
would live in a world where real sports cars hadn't been made for 30 years.
would live in an America where the populace had lost interest in space exploration and flight.

I never thought I would:

Tell kids to brush their teeth, not drink so much soda, pay attention in school, respect their elders.

I was in South Florida as a child during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and I had already passed through that once.

I was living just below the Reagan Ranch in the 1980s, so it chilled me when I heard him say over the local radio... "My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you I just signed legislation which outlaws Russia forever. The bombing begins in five minutes. " I thought he'd gone completely insane.

My expectation to not see my 30th birthday were due to factors completely of my own doing. No need for external factors like nuclear war. I still wonder how I managed to make it through those days without dying or being killed.

I was in Jacksonville during that period. We were probably beyond the range but it sure was hard for my old man to sell the house when we had to relocate because he was 35 years old, deeply in debt with a career in ruins.

I heard that Reagan moment the other day on NPR I can't remember in relation to what. Oh yeah. After Gordon Brown had his little gaffe the other day they were playing some famous microphone ef-ups. Ronnie was having a little Presidential fun during a sound check.

Iggy was nice enough to share writing credits with the guitar player who came up with the chord riff of The Passenger. Ricky Gardiner was able to "retire" to life as a shepherd in Wales (don't know if that is completely accurate), thanks to royalties on a song used in various movies, TV shows and video games.

You are not alone in any of this! Heads up, this is a weird time in life! Dig in deep and accentuate the positive, you can make your life worth bragging about!

I'm still a work in progress, a bank buy out of my former employer put me on the streets at 52. But I work at home and pay the bills. Better now than at 51.

See James Taylor and Carol King in concert together.

She looks like my mom, what does that make me look like?

When I was 25 I never thought I'd be riding double centuries. I was riding, and I'd heard about the Davis Double, but the idea that I might someday do it was unthinkable.

... I never thought I'd be 51 and thinking: "I'm still not sure what I REALLY want to do with my life."
... and yet...
... I never thought I'd have done and achieved as much as I have
... I never thought I'd have been be so lucky!

PS. Never thought I'd still feel like I was 25... maybe that's a mass delusion around here!

My biggest resentment as a parent is my 17 year old son turning me into my father.

When I was 25 I never thought about what it would be like to be 51.

But now I like to think about going back in time and telling that 25 year old a few things about the "future".

Eventually though, the conversation turns to what investments to buy and timing the stock market ... I could have been rich!

Now at 48, I would love to climb into a time machine, go back to when I was 18, and give myself a slap upside the head, to change a few decisions I was making about that time...... I would have gone into a different career path, and would never have sold my bike.....
