Actually a correction on my original statement, if you LOOK past 60, don't dye your hair a dark colour.

I found my first gray hair when I was 19 and since then, the gray has come and gone, seemingly in cycles - sometimes very noticeable, other times not so much. One summer I had a Cruella de Ville style white stripe down the center of my head which would have been much cooler in 1983 than in 2003, when I actually had it.

Now with 50 just around the corner, I still don't consider my hair gray although I do have a noticeable 'silver highlight' look going on. Thing is, while this bothers me not one whit, other people seem to feel the need to constantly point it out, as if they think I hadn't noticed. Whenever I go back to Britain, my (elder) sisters take great delight in commenting on it. They both dye the gray out of their own hair so I'm not at all sure what point they think they're making. I'm always surprised by the number of people who, despite not knowing me all that well, find it necessary to remark on my gray hair.

Just last week during a business meeting a colleague exclaimed loudly "Wow, you're really going gray, aren't you?" The appropriate response would of course have been for me to say "Wow, your boobs are really going south these days, huh?" but I chickened out.

But don't worry, I still have no plans to dye my hair. Although I did see a teenager with purple hair the other day and that looked well cool. Maybe I'll try that.

And they also say...it doesn't count until you find your first gray hair that isn't on your head.

I have less gray hair now than I did 5 years ago. Less black hair too.

There are key essentials for looking good when you return for a reunion:

1)Don't sweat a few extra pounds as many people have packed on some groceries.

However,
2)wear an outfit that is age appropriate and fits you well. (have your kids shop with you, they will be brutally honest)

3) Women: Wear a little bit of make up or lipstick or you'll look old and washed out, much like the Crypt-Keeper. Wear a skirt; the legs are the last to go!

4)Men & Women- have your hair cut and styled in a modern style. You will not look the same as you did 30 or 40 years ago just because you have the same hair!

5) Men- if you are bald - own it! You look fine. DON'T, under any circumstances, wear a toupee or a large cowboy hat! You are not fooling anyone and you look "peculiar"...unless you are from Texas and everyone is wearing a cowboy hat.

Trust me.
Mind if I add something to that? I'm a confirmed "Leg Man". Ladies, there is nothing wrong with wearing a well-above-the-knee skirt after age 40. Nope, absolutely nothing. Whatever they are telling you in those blasted magazines if wrong.

There I feel better now.

I've never been to a High School reunion and can't imagine going to one.
But it might be fun to go and be thinner and in better shape than i was in HS, and have a full head of hair to boot.

I might surprise a few folks, being a college professor instead of being in jail.

My high school class has started a Face Book page. Some pictures were posted from a recent local gathering. Man those people look old and frumpy!

Interesting thread. When I was 25, I never would have imagined that I would:
- Use a computer for shopping, surfing the web, communicating with others, etc.
- Carry my telephone in my pocket.
- Lose much of my hair. I was already getting gray at that age, but I never thought I would go bald!
- Weigh 20 pounds more even though I exercise more. I was always skinny when young, no matter what I ate.
- Ride my bike 7,000+ miles a year, half of that by commuting to work.
- Have a daughter who will graduate from college in a year.
- Invest in mutual funds and follow the stock market.
- No longer run, camp or backpack much anymore.
- Work as a reporter, writer and editor for many years.
- Learn to oil paint.
- See our country grow so polarized and regress on many issues.

1. Worry about my diet, and getting enough fiber.
2. Worry about my weight.
3. Talk about how music isn't as good as it used to be.
4. Think that concerts were too loud
5. Laugh at the way kids dress these days.
6. Consider 25 yr olds to be "kids".
7. Wish I'd started a pension plan earlier, just like all the old people told me to
8. Drive a car that was boring and slow. I.e. a "family car"

9. Want an "old fogey" car. (I want a Matrix now to haul around my bikes)
10.Get laid off.
11.Want to see the return of the 55MPH speed limit and/or small cars. (You must drive 80 on the interstates here to keep from getting run over)
12. Think that a vehicle could be too fast and/or powerful. (I have a 140HP motorcycle that will do 170MPH, and I'm going to sell it because there's nowhere I can use all that power and speed)
13. Have to consider how to keep young boys in line when it comes to my daughters.
14. Have to give up sports because of my health.
First seven items really covers most of it for me. No need to reinvent the wheel. I might have added, without getting too specific: "see the US take the political turn it has taken."

This is why I do not trust mirrors. I look at my peers and see old guys. I look in the mirror and see a great looking youngish guy. I see a picture of myself and say who is the old guy.

It's funny, but having reconnected with several high school friends and classmates on Facebook recently, I've been pleasantly surprised by how many of us are still as crazy and fun-loving as we were as kids. But a lot of them sure got fat!

I have had the same experience with Facebook. I scoffed at Facebook until a woman I graduated with contacted me by telephone right before our 35th reunion() and told me that many of our classmates talk on Facebook. I am having a great time talking to them all.
Conversely, many of the women from my class look great and I breathe a sigh of relief thinking, "Cool, we are hanging in there!" Hopefully, they are thinking the same thing about me!

1. Ever get out of that dammed wheelchair

2. Get to ride again after a crash.

3. Be 60 and still put in 89 miles and 3800 feet of vert, just for fun.
