I owe it all to my 19 y/o son. He tells me I'm a bad influence. I tell him the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Yes, I find 19 y/o sons especially useful for pearls like that, in addition, speaking the unadulterated truth. About a year after I started riding, my then 19 y/o son saw me bend over and said, "Geez Mom, you used to have a "mom-butt" and now you have no butt at all! He couldn't understand my responding to that comment with the stink eye. :notamused:

"I didn't see you" was my 25 yr old son's comments after racing in the same 50 mile 25 lap "A" training race last summer. I took that as the ultimate complement.

Thank Gaia! Volleyball season is over! 0-10 or something like that. I had nothing to do with it.

Allegheny Jet 06-04-10 04:15 PM

I'm spending way too much time watching robots and spewing oil. Yesterday evening was fascinating in an odd way.

Randy Bosma 06-05-10 03:41 PM

I rode the rainy part of a chance-of-showers day.

Wogster 06-05-10 04:58 PM

My target for the week was 40km - made it with 4 to spare :D

Took the 35lb MTB instead of the 25lb road bike, felt like I was dragging an anchor behind me, maybe that was the 30km/h winds....

The Weak Link 06-05-10 06:56 PM

I had a truncated ride today: 13 miles. I'd like to wake up in the early AM and ride, but I've been so exhausted lately I doubt it will happen. Chronic fatigue sucks.

Hermes 06-05-10 09:21 PM

I spent the day doing a pre race ride and getting TT bikes and wheels ready for tomorrow.

Went out tonight with my Godson and his mom for his 12th birthday to help her buy his first big guy bike with gears, an inexpensive Schwinn mountain bike. I bought him his accessories; helmet, lock, etc., helped get him get the proper size, showed him how it works, how to use the pump and rode the bike around in the store. Now I'm not just his Godmother, I'm "way cool." I had so much fun!

Nice...I love sharing the knowledge we acquire along our life's journey in the cycling world. Seems like I have someone approaching me monthly with serious questions about bikes, styles, clothing etc.

Rode with my 20 y.o. son today. The first 17 miles we stayed side by side. 18th mile, a flat, straight strip he said, "OK Mom, let's power it up!" He left me in his dust, and waited for me at an intersection. Then he helped me nurse my pride the rest of the way home.

I thought that stuff was for children. :p

Don't confuse FaceBook with MySpace. I did the same thing for a long time until I learned that many of the folks in our bike group (in their 50s, 60s, 70s and older) are on FaceBook and use it to keep up with family and friends. On FB, I re-connected with some old high school friends which is great since we don't live close though to get together in person. It's been fun catching up with them. BikeForums has a Facebook page.

This evening was perfect weather so I rode around, looking for souls to crush and cyclists to humiliate. Finding none, I just enjoyed the ride.

If you pushed yourself then you can't enjoy the ride...

The Weak Link 06-07-10 09:22 AM

Right now the weather outside is perfect - perfect - and I'm stuck inside at least until 5:30. I've planned a 46 miler on Wednesday morning if the planets remain in favorable alignment. Maybe I can find some souls to crush then.

Could be worse, I went out this morning, wind going North or West was enough that I didn't need brakes, just get out of the drops about 20m from the intersection and glide to a stop.

Next time, take some air pressure out of his tires!! (insert evil laugh here!) ;)

Please don't say it's true, I know you did but please be fibbing....please.

I wanted to go on a group ride tonight but spent the evening with my family instead. Def. family (fa:mih:lee) a group of people that doesn't necessarily ride bikes or even finds them the slightest bit interesting but share other, albeit lesser ties to you such as matching DNA, marital bonds, and the like. Best feature: occasionally generates grandchildren.
