Some folks (not referring specifically to Roadfan) take things on the internets WAY too seriously. One of the benefits of being a bit older than other folks with a computer and wifi is that we can see crap for what it is, and call it was it is.

This is a place for pleasant discussion of a healthy and fun past-time/hobby/exercise regime. Nothing more, and nothing less. Perspective is also a benefit of age.

+1. No sense getting too wrapped up in it.

I'm not an official 50+ person yet, not until November anyway. But, I will make a simple observation. I have found this 50+ forum and it's members most pleasant and laid back. Every forum with a large membership is always going to have it's fair share of the My dogs better than your dog crowd, but I have found a minimum of them here. If you want to argue there is always P&R forum, or the Road forum. Anyway I hope most of you stay here in the fifty plus forum, or it will be pretty hard to talk to someone here if you don't.

I do not want to stay if, as in the latest tubular thread, facts are ignored, hearsay reflecting misunderstanding is claimed as truth, and when one is informed that his claims are wrong accuses others of not being mature and rational.

It is not what it was. I may be back someday, but not for a while.

Godspeed.
I'm not sure I get the whole "i'm leaving mentality". Are you expecting someone to try to talk you out of it? Just go, you don't need to make a big, sad announcement.

OK, I just read all of the posts in the Tubular thread.

I agree that Roadfan should leave.

I think a consensus is building.

Has the "latest tubular thread" been removed? I wanted to go back & see what the fuss was about, but I can't find it.

It would have been more fun if the razor thread was about "double versus triple" blades.

What's next? Delete the 50+ forum?

Part of coming here is the entertainment value reading these threads. And now part of that has gone away.
I started that tubular thread, it got out of hand, and I asked the moderators to delete it rather then seeing a war here, when it seemed that folks were going to be leaving just because of it.

I skimmed it once, but didn't read in detail. From what I remember seeing, it seems like everyone is overreacting a bit.

I've been doing this internet thing for awhile, including bulletin boards (usenets). There's always some drivel, there are always some flames, and there's always some tripe I'm not interested in. I've learned that every time I post there's a potential for putting my foot in my mouth. I've been corrected and proven wrong plenty of times.

Still in all, I enjoy the discourse, exchange of ideas, and often cleverness I read here. I actually think the 50+ forum is a kindler, gentler place than most. Try the Road Cycling forum!

We are all free to stop coming here, as we are free to ignore a post that is uninteresting or ignorant. We are also free to say something stupid. I resemble that remark.

Happy trails.

Or a Camelbak vs bottles thread. That one almost ended in violence over in the road forum.

I do happen to care when long-time 50+ participants like Road Fan feel the need to leave the forum, and I am glad they express the reasons why. Having started the 50+ forum several years back, I guess I feel a vested interest.

I always like the threads that somebody gets mad about. The best ones are where somebody gets mad enough to not just stop reading it and move on and has to piss and moan about how badly the thread reflects on the site and illustrates the general state of deterioation of civil society and the decline of reasoned discourse. Sorry I missed the tubular thread.

Hi T'man: Long time no hear....BTW, the action started in my gluing tubular thread between R'Fan and the OP of the deleted tubular thread. https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...-Tubular-Tires IMO, the deleted thread had the post of the year by the thread's OP. IMO, there was nothing what so ever wrong in that thread that deserves deletion in that it broke no BF rules that I could see. Unlike other threads that have been noted by others. The criticism was of the information being promulgated by OP by forum members that have been riding and racing on tubies for tens of years and not directed at OP. Meaning there were no personal attacks. And it was not like the campy versus shimano where my campy is better than your shimano. It was just wrong information being stated by OP about the features and benefits of tubular tires. I agree with R'Fan that there is a lot of wrong information on BF but that is nothing new. It does seem we have more on the 50+ than usual. I figure most members are smart enough to see the facts from the BS.

People need to toughen up a bit.

I get loads of crap from Hermes and I haven't stomped off yet. Heck, he was nice enough to send me a whole box of Deep Woods Off recently.

I would have been even more touched if he hadn't sent it COD.

I have some bad news. In further review by me and another racer, we decided in spite of using the OFF we still sucked at the time trial. However, we did not have any bug bites.
