IMO, ICE (In case of Emergency) numbers are a good thing to have in your cell phone. I am curious as to how many 50+ cyclist have these numbers in there phone for first responders to have access to in case of an accident, and do you put the letters ICE before the contact name so that emergency people do a search for ICE or do they scroll down your contact list to find the number?

Yes, I have ICE numbers in my cell phone. When you enter the contact's name and number in your cell there is an option to set that number as an ICE contact. I have 2 listed; one friend and my husband. When you look at my list of contacts the ICE numbers are red to differentiate from other numbers. I use an LG phone and my carrier is Verizon. I imagine each has slightly different software, but same idea.

I wear a Road ID - always. Even when I'm not riding.

Many phones are set up from the factory ready to enter ICE information.
My phone has ICE Wife Cell and ICE Wife Home. The ICE info comes up first when Contacts is selected.
That same information is on the cheap dog tag I wear on a neck chain 24/7.
I'd consider Road ID or some other medic alert tag if I had medical issues.

I got reeled in by the ROADID commercials during the TdF. Really glad I got one. Wear it 24 x 7, even to a pig pickin, where I "sold" between 8 and 10 of them to moms, aunts, uncles of cyclists, and to some cyclist themselves.

When I got mine my dear daughter said, "Dad, if someone reads this, they will think you escaped from intensive care." My reply, "I know, I am trying to do something about that!" Get one.

I second Road ID.

Paramedics check your body first for external damage. Road ID is right on my wrist with ICE phone number & medical record number. If you really get hurt, your phone might not survive.

I got my Road ID necklace three years ago and never take it off.

Road ID is overpriced if all you need is Name, address and ICE info, compared to a basic dog tag or bracelet. If health information is part of the mix, then it makes more sense.

My phone's contact list automatically has the emergency contacts I enter right at the top of the otherwise alphabetized list. I had no choice in the matter, other than choosing who the contact would be.

You cook a whole pig, split, over coals, real slow. When the meat start fallin off, you line up, at least those that are still ambulatory, and you pick (although these days a fork might be involved) the freshly cooked meat. It is bar b que of sort. During the cookin, the cook, on whom there is tremendous pressure to do it right, bastes the pig with his or her sauce, normally vinegar based.

Both my wife and I have each other as ICE listings but I don't always carry my phone. A road ID sounds like a good option.

My phone has "In Case of Emergency" at the top of the contact list, and the contact listing for the number in the ICE is in red also. My previous phone didn't have this feature, but I added an ICE contact number. It was my wife, so every time she called me, the name displayed was ICE. She didn't think it was funny.

I figure if I'm in an accident one of the first things they'll do is check my head. And if my helmet has been knocked all the way off, I'm not sure there's much they'll be able to do for me anyway. The other reason I went in this direction is that my phone is locked and can only be opened with a password (the reason for this is another story).

Interesting to hear that people are actually using RoadIDs. I just thought they were a scam that got on Versus TdF coverage because somebody was a friend of Bob Roll's, and all the commentators got them for free, so they started plugging it. I don't like the idea of having external identification; somebody could read your name and have an opening to try to scam you. But then, I'm really cynical and mistrustful! Interesting info about using ICE in your phone

I always wear my Wrist Road ID (which contains my medical insurance and contact numbers) but why ICE numbers... don't you all have 9-1-1?

BTW - I used to have a hemet ID but one day had a bad injury, I crashed off my bike, was knocked out. When the paramedics came the first thing they did (after checking me out - so I am told) was remove my helmet and set it off to the side. It was forgotten and never checked. Paramedics routinely checked one's neck or wrist for Medic Alert bracelets.

BTW I have no idea what ever happened to my helmet. It just disappeared.

Well, the medical authorities might need to call someone to verify it's ok to unhook you from life support.
