I sing baritone most of the year in a big local chorus, the UMS Choral Union. We do Messiah every year, several concerts with the Detroit Symphony (we're essentially their chorus), and sometimes with the University of Michigan orchestra or the Ann Arbor Symphony. We get good soloists (John Relyea, some other Met standards), and have recorded. Last one won Grammys. We mainly sing the warhorses.

I'm also in a small, much less serious group called the Ann Arbor Bicycle Choir. We sing four part a capella music, using well-known music and arrangements with bicyclized lyrics. I have fun writing some of the adaptations. We have tried to sing four-part while riding, but it's really hard to do both. Walking and chewing gum is a LOT easier. There I usually sing tenor, which is not really good for my voice, but tenors are hard to find. There is a Youtube of us from about two years ago, but we sound a lot better now. It's strictly amateur, with only loose organization. Not sure if we want to perform or to just sing together. If I find the link I'll post it.

to the tune of "Sloop John B:"

"I'm stuck on US twenty-three
Ten thousand drivers and me
The jam's from 8-mile clear down to Plymouth road"

and several more verses - this song's copyrighted.

I hope someday a Casmano bike makes its way to Alabama, it's your size, and you buy it. Why? Portland Builder Steve Casmano (1962-2008, RIP, cancer) was a good frame builder but also a &*^%ing killer roots/rockabilly bassist both on electric and upright.

Well I am not a musician, but I do sing while riding, usually it's "Travelin on the City of New Orleans".

Thank you! We don't get to Texas very often but if you're ever in the north east look me up.

I play harmonicas and I once led a blues band, singing and blowing harps. My voice is too inconsistent and my mouth and throat dry out too quickly now to perform. I sat in briefly with the band playing at a NYE party and my wife caught this impromptu solo of me sliding in sideways to the new year.

You called? I see someone referred to me already in this thread. Sorry I can't give lessons on how I do it. If I had to think about what I was doing I would surely fall over!

Since the early 1980s, I have ridden tens of thousands of miles "no hands" on a 1977 Schwinn Sportabout ten-speed while simultaneously playing a Fender Stratocaster guitar. Here is a video from a couple months ago (filmed February 9, 2012). By the way, this winter is the first time in thirty years of bicycle guitaring that I have had a place to ride and play indoors when it is too cold and wet to do outside. Of those many thousands of miles bicycle guitaring, I have only ridden a short distance indoors.

Anyone care to comment on the possibility that whistling while cycling brings bad luck??

I spare the world the indignity of listening to me sing. After hearing me you would think Bob Dylan was Frank Sinatra.

But these guy rock while they roll!

I've been a professional French horn player for the past 35 years and am still going strong. If you pedal in sync with the last movement to Mendelssohn's "Italian" Symphony (No. 4) you'll have your cadence just about right.

I like that! Mrs. Road Fan is a professional musician and 30+ year public school music teacher. We talk about pedaling cadences in terms of musical tempi, how pedaling should be faster than largo or larghetto, but lower than a fast andante. This gets her in the ballpark.
