IOWA - Wabash Trace Nature Trail - Information Please

Anyone out there with recent experience on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail in Iowa?

Rail Trail information is a little old.

Planning a 'maybe' trip this Summer/Fall that might include the region.

Thanks in advance.

Excellent trail. Since it was an old RR line, there are no steep hills and is generally level. A lot of places the path is two paths that is probably better for a bike than a trike, altho a trike will work. Lots of small towns with mom and pop cafes.

True... and there's lots of shade along the way. A trike should be fine as the trail surface is very good unless there has been lots of rain. Be sure to attend the Taco Ride on Thursday at the Mineola Steakhouse.... it is really fun. Riders usually ride from the trailhead in Council Bluffs up to Mineola for Tacos and beverages and then ride back, often after dark, so be sure to bring a light. An informal party spot is called "Margaritaville" at mile six from the CB trailhead... it is good fun.

People do the ride on road bike in dry conditions but a 28mm tire or wider is really best. There is a new quality restaurant in Silver City I hear. It IS slightly uphll from Council Bluffs for about 6 miles but it isn't severe. As the trail goes south from Shenandoah, IA it is not as well used or maintained.
