Good News

The first thing I saw this morning was the "Thinking of Beverly" thread Thanks everyone. I was out riding a couple days of GOBA before the surgery. I had paid for the ride and it was too late to get a refund so I decided the few days of riding would take my mind off the upcoming surgery.

The lumpectomy was yesterday. My doctor had warned me he might need to take a lot of tissue due to the location of the tumor. Thankfully this wasn't necessary. He removed one lymph node and it tested negative for cancer cells. The doctor and nurses in the recovery room indicated this was an excellent sign that it hasn't spread beyond the breast.

The pathology report should be available in a few days and will determine the type of radiation treatments for me. I'm still hoping for the 5 day treatment plan.

I'm starting the suggested exercises for the arm today. They also suggest walking so I guess I'll be lacing on the walking shoes instead of the cycling shoes for awhile. I may go to the Y and check out the stationary bikes. I can ride them with no hands...something I've never been able to do on the road bike

So....I'm just waiting to determine the radiation treatment plan so I can get this episode of my live behind me

Before cycling came along I spent a lot of time hiking. Walking, like cycling, is meditative and soothing or it can be brisk and energysing depending on mood. Just as important, it costs nothing to walk. Furthermore, people such as Moses and Mozart walked so there is tradition. Peter Jenkins walked across America and wrote a best seller. Clearly, the seemingly simple act of walking opens up great possibilities and I hope it will be the same for you.

So, pleased to hear it went well. Hopefully it will be a smooth course of treatment. we'll keep good thought coming your way until you're completely out of the woods, which will be soon!

Beverly,
Well I am glad to read you had no problems with the surgery. Keep up the great work. I hope the radiation choice is the 5 day you want to use and that all goes well for you. You remain in my prayers.

Good news indeed Beverly! You can always put your bell on a finger to signal folks to get out of the way while walking. That might help a little to keep you from missing the rides as much! Good luck on getting the 5 day treatment regimen too!

Remember that you can safely ride a stationary bike with your eyes closed, too. Look, Ma, no hands and my eyes closed! Wheeee!

I'm a newb here and not familiar with your circumstances... But my GF is a supervisor at a local cancer center, so I've got a pretty good idea of what you're going through. You seem like a doggone positive person !
Here's wishing you all the strength and courage you need to make it through !!!!

The one thing after my RP that sticks in my mind is the surgeon bringing me round a bit to tell me the fantastic news that the Lymph glands were free of Cancer.

Glad to see every OK so just start the Carbo Loading for when you can ride. I'll have a slice for you on Sunday and it may have to be chocolate

Or sticky toffe- Or Pecan- or? ? ?

Never mind- I'll have whatever is going to help you recover.
