TDF sensitive question
So yesterday they rode ~ 100 miles. 4 hours 20 minutes in the saddle. Obviously a lot of water consumption.
Is the porta-john the first thing they look for at the end of the ride?
Seriously, those of you that do that kind of riding, how in the world do you manage? Guess there is a balance in there somewhere. Guess they are used to it, but...

You do realize they just stop on the side of the road and go... right? If you watch the Tour broadcast they often show the guys stopping for a "nature break". In fact this morning a crash was caused by someone stopping for a "break" and the road was too narrow.
The other problem... well I guess they just have to deal with it... side of the road, go and get back on the bike...

The same happens in long local races. Sometimes the pack will negotiate a nature break like the pros do and the entire race will stop. Sometimes you just have to stop fast. Some riders can pee while riding (ride no hands, pull down the shorts, turn to the side).

Never have seen a pee break or heard talk about it. Was just wondering. Last year was the first time I've ever seen coverage of TDF. Never had a great interest in it before.
Cool, thanks. Would seem like a great way to gain an edge on the competition( but i understand the 'gentleman's agreement'). Catheter, anyone? Chain lube?

I saw a picture of this being done once. Another rider from the same team was on the riders left with his hand on the riders butt and a third farther left pushing on the teammate. The rider going was going to the right.

I once saw some TDF coverage where they went into this subject in some detail culminating with video of the urinate from the saddle (from a tasteful angle, if one exists). I also read a Bicycling Magazine article where they went into some detail on how one could acquire this skill. I figure that I really do not have to be in THAT MUCH OF A HURRY to complete a ride.

Actually I notice that too. Of course, the riders pull off and relieve themselves but in years past it was an unwritten rule never to show that... this year its like every other shot... this morning there was some rider standing there facing the camera... thankfully Phil and Paul just ignored it but I got a good 15 second glimpse I didn't need! What's up with that???
