You should've seen his eyes when I told him I ride motorcycles. They got even bigger when I told him I race motocross.

I use Diovan (160mg), which is not supposed to limit heart rate - something I just learned. It works great for me, and, as far as I can tell, I have no side effects. I also take a small amount of HCTZ

I've been using them for several years now.

One thing that seems to help. On my weekend morning rides, which are usually my long rides, I don't take my Beta until I am thru with ride. One other thing that seems to help and that is to do deep breathing BEFORE I get to a climb or before I sprint.

I've heard Beta-Blockers referred to as "sloth in a pill" but I never really experienced that for the short time I took one. I was on metoprolol for 6 months after a bout of AFib (really, what's a trip to the Islands without a night in the emergency room?). I didn't notice too much change in how hard I could ride. I didn't notice that it helped control AFib either, so another doctor put me on Flecainide. That seems to control AFib a little better. I can still ride hard and I don't notice much in the way of side effects. I will have my 1 year follow-up for the Flecainide prescription in a few weeks.

I've been taking beta blockers for years. They don't seem to affect my riding.

Went for check up Thursday. Doctor switched me from Attenenol to Bystolic. Not supposed to restrict breathing. Had grandkids last weekend and did not get to ride. Should get out tomorrow afternoon. Curious if new med will make a difference. Doctor said it should be better than what I was taking as far as breathing is concerned.
Should add that all my blood work came in great. Been off statins now for about 7 months. Been off Liprinosil and diuretic since May. What a difference being in shape and eating right makes.

I know when I got switched from Atenenol to Bystolic (20mg) I stopped needing so much sleep - can't remember what (if anything) it did to my breathing as I was not riding yet.

In case your resting heart rate is normally low

FIrst - I am not a medical professional. Just another patient.

May not be in your case, but I know that I cannot be on beta blockers because my resting heart rate is low to begin with.
