Thanks, freedomrider! You sound just like TheMister--he kept calling out to the crowd, "More cowbell!"
Seriously, if someone does not feel that "life is good" and is physically able to ride a charity event, I would highly recommend it. The experience of challenging your body and succeeding, while doing something that will help others, followed by that appreciative crowd, brings on a high like no other!

We had our regular Wednesday group ride today. The route was on MUP to the edge of town, then low traffic country roads so that we could ride and chat. The group was all very friendly and we stayed together all day, it was really a nice ride.

I went to my orthopedist appointment yesterday expecting to hear that I would have to have surgery and instead was told that I didn't need surgery and could start bearing weight on the injured foot again. I even got the ok to ride a stationary bike for 20 minutes. I was at the gym first thing this morning doing the bike and some weights. Even bonded with another guy there sporting an Aircast! Life is good, and I am very happy!

A few weeks ago I was riding the bridges and saw a little girl, maybe 12, in a motorized wheelchair. Mop of blonde hair poking out of her baseball cap, big sunglasses, oxygen mask, painted nails on her swollen toes and fingers... I think she had CF? Cute little thing, hollered "Hi" right back at me as I passed her and then went blasting up the bridge as fast as her chair would go. My three daughters are strong, mostly healthy and as happy as teenage girls can be. Praise God. Lucky.

The air is crisp and clear, the annual psychedelic leaf show is just beginning, the farm stands are brimming with wonderful food, and the big smallmouths are putting on the feed bag. We're surrounded by lakes, rivers and hundreds of miles of bike trails and quiet back roads. I love the fall, and when it's over, it's time to ski. Not too bad. I have no interest in retiring to a place that has no seasons.

Our cycling is getting back on track. We are planning various randonnees and a 7 Peaks Challenge involving rides up the seven highest mountains in our state. We also are planning travel and tours in 2012 that should take us all over the world, with the North Sea Route in Europe, the Maritimes and Vancouver (again) in Canada, South America and New Zealand on the list.
We are getting more into water sports with canoeing and kayaking, and Machka is progressing her interest in photography. We have a great choice of bikes, and in particular our tandem riding is going great guns. There are bikes still to be built, and gear still to be bought.
We are debt-free, healthy, have jobs we (mostly) enjoy, resolve our squabbles quite well (that is, we get on well with each other); we can meet our needs and indulge our wants (although those aren't overly ambitious).
Right now, there's nothing we would change.
