The "Life is good and I'm happy" thread
There have been plenty of grumpy threads lately. Isn't time for a thread of just positive news and comments to balance things a bit?
I walked to the mailbox this morning at 5:15 to get the newspaper and the sky was full of stars and the air so cool and fresh. I had to stay there for a while and enjoy it all.....what a great way to start a great day!!

Interesting you should start this thread. My spouse and I were just talking about the same thing. People in general seem to be angry and self-centered. Are we out of touch? Should we feel the same? We decided not.
Oh, we have had plenty of reason to be sad and angry. But, we have so much compared to where we started and where we may end up. How can we fail ourselves by not appreciating today!

A couple of weekends back, I rode my first century of 2011, one that I've ridden a few times, in record time and had gas left in the tank. I rode the last 63 miles with 3 great people.
Each member of my family is gainfully employed, and we are all healthy.

Wonderful cool crisp air here too. Sunshine. Smiled and shared the road with a couple folks on the MUP today... it felt good. Was also patient and careful not to annoy drivers on the road section of my ride... good vibes all around.

Life is very good. My job seems secure and I'm kind of the old institutional guy at work. It's a nice position and I'm good at resolving issues. My wife is only a few classes from her masters & my daughter seems to be doing well in school - she'll graduate in a year. We have a little money in the bank & no debt. The garage has one bike, two kayaks and two cars. Our health is excellent and while I've lost both of my parents in the last two years, life goes on.

Recent scare about the possibility of Leukemia, blood work came back yesterday and everything was fine. Won't get a ride in until tomorrow, but sense of tomorrow is much better than it was a few days ago.
BTW, I'm going to be taking a break from 50+ for a while. There has been a higher amount of aggressive, "I know more than you", "I'm right and you're wrong", "How could you be so lame" kind of comments that last few weeks. And, honestly, I need more positive vibes than that. I have stayed with this forum for almost six years becasue of the positive, thoughtful, and respectful demeanor. I know these things go in cycles. So, I'm just hoping this cycle is a short one.

Recent scare about the possibility of Leukemia, blood work came back yesterday and everything was fine. Won't get a ride in until tomorrow, but sense of tomorrow is much better than it was a few days ago.

I have so many reasons to be content with life. Throughout the last 14 months I've had to deal with a seriously broken femur (2, 12" struts with 12 screws), and, just for fun, prostate cancer thrown in for good measure. In the last couple months I've started cycling again and can fairly easily do a flat 40+ miles. My PSA is zero (no sign of cancer), and I had one of the struts removed and my leg is at about 90% and feeling pretty good. Next week my wonderful wife and I will head to Hannibal, MO to, first, start a ride along the Mississippi River and then on down to the Katy Trail and across Missouri.
Having never had to deal with health issues before, I can say I've learned much about myself and how much my wife and others love me. Why shouldn't I be happy**********

Life is good! Im 73 never been in hospital, own my home, happily married for 44 years, 3 great sons, and I just got a new trike. And I am going for a ride in nice weather today.

The air is crisp and clear, the annual psychedelic leaf show is just beginning, the farm stands are brimming with wonderful food, and the big smallmouths are putting on the feed bag. We're surrounded by lakes, rivers and hundreds of miles of bike trails and quiet back roads. I love the fall, and when it's over, it's time to ski. Not too bad. I have no interest in retiring to a place that has no seasons.

All is good at the Freedomrider1 homestead. First year of riding for the Mrs. she loves it.Daughter just engaged to a fine young man.Son doing great in law school.Kinda wish i was retired but what the heck its not that bad going to work just takes up to much time.Glad to hear your blood work came back ok NOS88,dont be gone to long always enjoyed reading what you have to say.

I'm lucky to live near a large wildlife refuge system that has a network of maintenance roads. I've been doing 10-15 mile rides at night after supper. It's nice seeing all the wildlife and being out alone in the dark. Last night I wanted to ride further but it was getting late and I had to get ready for work the next day.

The weather has been nice and clear. The wind has waited till after our group rides. My spare parts box is getting full and I am thinking of building a N+1. How could life not be good?
