I'm retired!

Congrats on the retirement choice! I'm late 60's, a product of Connecticut manufacturing (which is mostly shut down now), but moved to Texas 20 years ago and now consult to the energy industry. I should have rolled up the carpet a few years ago, but the demand for my services went off the map. This January (I hope) I will just work about 1/2 time.
Thank God I left corporate America years ago!

Good for you Dawg! Maybe you can work in a few weekends to do some brief trips and take in some of Ga's away games. Or even organize a Fall bike ride to go along with your Spring event.

WTG! You have successfully graduated from the school of work, work, work. And matriculated into the school of work on your own terms, as you see fit. Good that you have a supportive SO in your corner.

Congrats Benny, you wont be sorry. I could relate to alot of what your path was, after my rebelious years, I worked for a defense company for many years. Toward the end with mergers, changes to benefits etc, and some policy changes with which I did not agree, I retired. That was three and a half years ago.
Sounds like you have a good plan with working part time at something you enjoy, that is great.
BTW thanks for the tips on my recent Salsa build, much appreciated.

BD,
Congrats on your retirement. Be careful working in a toy store though even with the employee discounts you may not be bringing home much of a paycheck. It's very easy to load up on new trinkets for the bike.

And I didn't even know you were tired!!
Enjoy - they will be lucky to have you at the LBS.
My neighbor just retired and he is going a bit nuts. His wife is still working.
He is pretty OCD, and he has been fixing every little thing he can possibly find to fix. In addition he has a new volvo he bought in Europe and shipped here. He washes it practically daily, including squirting water in the engine compartment. It is only a few months old.
He and his nephew did take mtn bikes and ride down the ski-run mtn (Winter Park), using the lift to get up.
He does run daily.

Retire? or re-tire? Only thing that word means to me is a new set of Schwalbes.
Congratulations. Well deserved, and have lots of fun at the bike shop. I worked at a high end road shop part time on a temporary basis this spring until they were able to find a full timer. Quite a change from when I ran my own shop, but I'll probably do it again.

DON'T DO IT
If I knew how hard this retirement lark was-I would have done something else. All that time to do the jobs around the house- The garden to adapt- change- destroy-- The extra coop for the chickens---The decking to be sanded down and reproofed- the bike shed to tidy up internally- the outside to be painted and the new asphalt to go on- the Fence to be replaced and then there is the bike riding.
If I knew how hard this retirement was- I would not have gone for it.

Congrats to you BD. I'm in my second, and final, retirement attempt and I have to say that I should have never gone back to work when I retired the first time. Retirement is great as long as you keep yourself busy doing things that you like to do. Now you'll have more time for riding.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm looking forward to seeing what adventures lie ahead.
My transition to retired life is being complicated a bit by some medical/dental issues related to my 2008 bout with throat cancer. The intense radiation treatments I had not only damaged my salivary glands leaving me with constant dry mouth and resulting susceptibility to tooth decay, they also affected the flow of blood through my jaw bones, raising the possibility of poor healing and infection after dental surgery (osteoradionecrosis) . I have an upper wisdom tooth and a couple of lower teeth with enough decay that extraction is needed. To help prevent the complications, I have been undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatments, spending 3 hours every weekday morning in a tank for 20 days prior to the surgery and followed by another 10 days after.
The good part is that the clear tank has a TV above it so I can watch the live Tour de France coverage each day while I'm in there.

BD,
Best wishes for an uneventful surgery for the teeth and a complete, complication free recovery. The hyperbaric medicine is remarkable, I have watched it while using the Wound Center here for my fistulas and surgical wounds. I got to do the engineering documentation on the relocation of one of the Navy's chambers in the late 80's when my company built a new Aviation Physiology building at N.A.S. Pensacola. what an incredible piece of equipment. Best of Luck with both the surgery and the retirement.

Someday, Blues Dawg, I'm coming down there and we're gonna have a few beers. Of course, from what I hear, it will have to happen before BRAG. (Rumor has it that after BRAG is over, it takes breweries months to re-supply Georgia with beer.)

Louis, come down for BRAG and avoid that problem.
