Toast my wife Happy New Year 2014!

bwfox 12-08-12 07:10 PM

My goal this year, after losing my left lower leg, was to ride the 100 miler at Death Valley for JDRF. After learning how to ride differently with a prosthetic and training all year, my cardiologist took me off the bike the week before the ride in Oct for some tests. As luck would have it, he left a message on my phone that I got after the ride. He said, "go ahead and get back on your bike. All we need is to put you on beta blockers and you're good to go...."So, my goal for 2013 is to maintain my conditioning thru the winter and hit the roads early in 2013. I need to go back to Death Valley and complete that 100 miler. It is a pretty tough one. I also want to start riding some gravel events out here in NV. Otherwise, I want to try and ride at least 5 days per week.

Stay upright and breathing with a lots of wind in my hair and a helmet of course!

If I have any goals for 2013 it to hit the big 60 in May happier, healthier and lighter than I was when I hit the big 50. For that I will need to continue to lose weight over the winter so I have added a daily brisk 20 minute walk to my fitness program along with some weight training. As far as the biking goes I want to hit the riding season ready to go (unlike 2012), which hopefully translates into even more s/miles.

Best of luck to everyone on your goals for 2013 especially if you are battling health or physical issues.

Besides the obvious (survive to 2014, etc):
1) earn my 3rd (or is it 4th?) Super Randonneur award
2) complete the Gold Rush Randonnee (1200k, Davis CA)
3) after the Gold Rush (sorry - couldn't resist), ride the 4 Summits Challenge in Cascade ID.
4) do something worthwhile (making the world a better place and all that idealistic tripe).
5) enjoy, and be thankful for, every day.

2014 is second year on a road bike after 3years on hybrid.

Miles from 3,500 to 4,000 to 4,500
lose 10+ pounds at least, lost 30 in four years
Increase speed from 15 to 16 (related to weight?)
increase distance from 54 max to 62 or higher
increase average ride from 30 to 40 mimiles

rode 2000 miles in 2011 so pleased with progress at age 67

krobinson103 12-11-12 09:50 PM

Stay at 85kg, lose some of the stretched skin thats been with me for a year, when the weather gets better ride 400km a week every week again. Other than that I've pretty much hit the sweet spot that matches cycling with family and work.

As a beginner (at 56) my goal is to ride as much as possible, get rid of weight and get in shape. Join a couple clubs and get back the joy of being on the road with the wind and weather.

bobthib 12-13-12 11:21 AM

For the past 4 years I have focused on annual miles for a goal. This year it is again 8,000 mi, and I should be very close. I won't go over by 5% like last year, but I should just about hit it on the nose.

Next year, however, I'm focusing on Triathlons. I will try (or is it tri?) to do 4 or 5 sprint tris, and finish the year with the Miami Man International Tri. Based on my first tri in September, I'm hoping to get a AG podium finish in most of the sprints. Mileagewise, I should be close to 8K for the year, but I'll need to focus on swimming and running training, and the cycling may have to give way a bit.

Then in 2014, I'll do a mix of sprint and international tris, and finish the year with the Maimi man Half IM Tri. I won't focus too much on podium finishes, but train for the Half IM.

Depending on how that goes, I'll work to do a full Ironman in 2015 or 16. The goal there is to complete, not to compete.

That should keep me busy, and I'll decide what's next after that.

Goals:
1. 5000 miles or at least beat 2012 total
2. Get my wife to ride at least 1000 miles with me
3. Stay healthy (probably should be number 1 after 7 back operations)

Nah. To quote a cycling coach in Seattle BITD, "If you don't fall at least once a year, you're not riding hard enough."

My goal for 2013 is simple - to ride more than this year. It's my resolution every year now.

to keep my current personal training, get my eating in tune with that training, and periodically crank up the routine a notch. the ultimate goal would be to get back to where I was the summer of 2010 ...

rumrunn6 12-14-12 02:34 PM

how old do you have to be to tap into Social Security and how much do you get?

BikeArkansas 12-14-12 09:49 PM

I plan to make 2013 the year of the single speed. As much as I like riding it, my goal is to ride several century and metric century events on it. Must get better at climbing. Lots of standing on the single speed.
