George,
It was a rear tyre that went, sounded like a .22 shot when it blew out. I unloaded the weight on the rear wheel by shifting forward, applied both brakes slowly and got it stopped safely. I walked across the bridge I had gotten on and asked a nice lady if I could sit on her side yard while I put in a fresh tube. I booted the tyre's hole with a dollar bill, put my spare tube in and got the bead seated then inflated the tube with my CO2 inflator and rode slowly the 2 miles left to my house. If it had been a front tyre it would be a totally different story for me. Yeeeccccchhhh.

You would have had to wheelie all the way home.

Is there a way of "guesstimating" proper PSI for the 25s? I weigh 185 lbs plus gear.

Not in this case, I would probably still be nursing the gouges in my face and shoulder from the sharp rock edges of the road's aggregate. I was at about 25 mph due to the rough surface slowing me a bit. I fell on this type of road as a child and my face looked like a pound of ground round before cooking.

You handled a bad situation very well! I admire your cool -- but mostly I'm glad you made it with all pieces intact.

Same here. I much rather have the nicer ride than the small amount of speed that you might get with a 23.

There's an app for that: https://www.dorkypantsr.us/bike-tire-...alculator.html

Use the "Total weight (bike+rider)" calculator and adjust the weight distribution to 45%/55%
