So I notice the geezerfest banner ads in the 50+ thread.

Hoverounds. "Malt shop" cruises.

And really big text for both.

The truth hurts.

Bikes: Too Numerous (not)

The banner ads I see are all specific to recent searches and web sites I have visited --likely from local cookies.
Those topics you refer to must be things YOU have recently visited.

And, not only are advertisements targeted at you based on where you live and your online viewing habits -- but some online venders even adjust their prices based on those things.

Ah ... no. Not in this case ... they're getting them from some other source.

Bikes: Several bikes, Road, Mountain, Commute, etc.

I don't about yours Vic, but I'm getting ads for racing go-carts (K1-Speed), vacation rentals and Time pedals.

I have never searched for any of the above!

I use Safari.
Now tell me all about these ads. They sound "interesting".

Screw that. I'm madly searching women's lingerie instead. Bring on the lingerie cookies!

I am lazy and don't bother to try to avoid ads. These days, the ads are virtually all from online bicycle stores, etc. But usually, they are trying to sell me things I've already bought - Competitive Cyclist keeps trying to sell me Ultegra cassettes based on a search (and purchase) of a cassette in November or so.

So they are well-targeted, but some times a little behind the curve.

I've been dreaming of getting a folding bike, and I've done a few searches, but thus far Bike Friday and Dahon have yet to target me. They will soon, I guess.

Well worth it. I was viewing BF on another machine a few weeks ago and couldn't remember my log in info so I browsed in guest mode. Having gotten used to the site without ads, I wondered how I ever tolerated them before I paid the membership fee.

FML. I just realized the only reason I saw the ads at all is because I was on my laptop and wasn't automatically logged in.

I was wondering about that. Looking forward to seeing you and Teresa Saturday. Are you planning on doing the whole route?

Yea, I think so. With the cold weather and all the work of late, I've been riding closer to home. It will be nice to get out into some real mountains. See you there!
