Most likely it's me that's become such a turncoat. Should have noticed I was entering a pub.

Wasn't always that way, and I'm not suggesting that anyone else needs to stop with the drinks.

Once i reread what and where I posted, it was deleted.

Those cranks and chainrings are still spending time in the "can't bear to toss it" bin, if you know someone
who might use them.

We skied some excellent powder runs from the tops of Crystal highest steeper runs all morning.

I deserved it (the beer). But my knees went to lead afterward.

Below = traversing to the top of Powder Bowl.

Rained and cleared before the ride without more rain expected until later but at the last with ~3 miles to go, a bit of a spritz started coming on that had me spinning for gold-- a 2 x IPA Flight...

Middle of the day and I'm on the computer. Think I'll shut it down, make an appt. with an orthopod, air up the c-dale and go for a ride!

March Pub51 IPA evaluation submission

I'm not really an IPA guy but......it said 'Imperial IPA' (that's good, right?)
1. I trust Red Hook. Saw it's now produced in Portland OR, where I'm visitin.
1a. Always buy Local.
2. Bottle size was good = 22oz.
3. The "Big Ballard" name caught my eye.
4. 8.6% by volume closed the deal.

Even with the heightened alcohol level it maintained a lightness with a bit of a bitter finish - hoppy (i guess) - and a bit of a kick, the 8.6 was more than subtlety present.

I had pulled it from the frig and the temp (imho) was too cold. Seemed to killz any flavor and accentuate the hoppy after. So, being a patient guy - sip along and see how it changes as it warms. And low&behold after drinking most of the bottle, time&consumption were adding to the enjoyment. But still too hoppy for me, although the bottle description listed 'crisp finish'.

After 25 miles, following up a flight of craft brewed IPA with a crafty stout that comes in at 10 on the ABV scale makes for a tasty digestiff ...

Wondering what words of wisdom Pub51ers have learned from fellow BF members.

Aside from those things we all know to be true ---
red bikes are fastest, Italian bikes are sexiest, keep the rubber side down for max enjoyment, etc -

What saying or expressions from this Forum have struck a chord with you?

For me one of best was/is in a member's signature, i just forget whose.... :foo:

Not trying for grave humour, but paraphrasing other members, a couple of my favourites are:

The purpose of the post is to help me understand the handling characteristics of a particular bike. An early 70s Zeus brazed in Erbil, Spain - deep in the Basque region. Look at attached pics and tell me if you think this fork curvature is different from most on a (vintage lightweight) sport/racing bike. And would it yield a more 'touring' feel in the front end steering? Or is it just a French (+Basque) design? Would the unknown (to me) fork material be responsible for perceived ride(main tubes are 531)? Or should I just ride a wider range of bicycles and not obsess over any outliers.

And below is my early 70s French touring frame, tho a slightly larger size. The Follis has a bend more like the Bottechia in my estimation.

And now for a change of pace. I no longer race sail boats but look in on some of the more interesting sailing events. For a number of years now, a major ocean racing event was first the Whitbread Round the World Race which was superceeded by the Volvo Round the World Race. It consists of about 45,000 nautical miles with stop-overs at half a dozen or so world ports. Last weekend one of the last legs began in Newport Rhode Island to the next stopover at Cardiff, Wales. I drove over to the venue at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, a short drive for me and was very impressed with the amount of Euros Volvo has put into the event and the effort put into the show at "race village". I was also very impressed with the boats themselves which have stood up well under the stress of hard ocean racing.

There is a nice video of the start of the Atlantic leg of the race. The early part of the video is almost a travelogue about Newport, a picturesque New England sailing town where I used to live. The racing part of the video shows the maneuvering and tactics involved at the start crews try to outsmart each other in playing wind and tidal currents to gain advantage.

So near the end of my morning ride today, I stopped by the town athletic fields and watched about 1/2 hour of softball. One team was sponsored by a paramedic organization and the second team was sponsored by an Irish pub. This is a mixed league for both men and women. At one point a ball took an unexpected hop and hit a woman in the nose causing a nose bleed. Directly in front of me another woman was the score keeper for both teams. As the game came to a temporary halt for the nose bleed to be dealt with, I asked the score keeper if there was actually a paramedic on the team. She replied "There is one paramedic out there". Then I asked how many drinkers there were. She replied, "All of them". Some things in life are so predictable.
