OK.
I’ll be the literalist. Hit a ‘pub’ today. Drank a beer, partway thru ~14,000 vertical feet. Essentially all downhill. Sagged up, so to speak. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...79c376264.jpeg Headed down this run. Almost to the Interstate90 road below, seen as a horizontal line. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...442de0696.jpeg |
I grow old; I grow old.
And if I shrink in my sleep No short pants do I keep. I grow old, I grow old So I wear my pants rolled. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d8b796ab7.jpeg Fish & Chips |
Passing the Bar, noticed it was empty. Turned on the lights
to get a better look AT MY NEW BICYCLE PROJECT. Hugo Rickert from about 1959. Been wanting a German bike and a vintage lightweight from my birth year. Rickert is German - and settling on my birth decade instead of year. Anyone got a Campy Gran Sport mini-group from '59 or early 60's? https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...61efa9bc19.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...aa90081b91.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cd12570725.jpg OK, lights off - don't wanna run up the Forum bill. |
No problem maintaining social distancing in the Bar today.
New public library being built not far from home. Probably won't change my preference for e-books from the library, but I will check it out when completed/opened. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c25335a8_b.jpg Last one out turn off the lights. Done. |

Love to take a coffee/pastry/reading break in the mornings.
http://i.imgur.com/DiQiuQNl.jpg People watching is fun too. Some interesting characters hanging out there. The only one who made me nervous was the guy who couldn't stand still. Kept walking in circles. Would stop at the bike on the left, placed there by a young (30ish) lady. Then around my table across the parking lot and back. One of the clerks came out and talked with him. But she was still inside and he was still outside when I finished. Unlike my books, in real life, sometimes questions remain unanswered. |
Sounds he may be a bit Loco. Be Well, Bluesfrog.

Random ramblings:
I recently bought a used Trek 800, basic budget bread and butter bike. Looked like it just needed a little attention, so I figured I’d fix it up and get it ridable again, and when sold I’d hopefully at least get my money back out of it. So far, with parts availability, and with some parts no longer available, the project is starting to look like it will cost more than it is worth. Time will tell if it becomes a parts donor or someone’s summer transportation. At least I’m learning something and now know a few more things to watch out for when looking at project bikes. And in another project progress, I bought a parts bike and transferred the basket to the Tanker bike, the heavy bike is now heavier, but that’s okay. This bike is a Novara Safari, their version of an adventure bike, the more I ride it the more I like it. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a430f053e.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...25f05afe8.jpeg |
Yeah treebound I hear 'ya about a rebuild that goes over-budget - at least what I told myself it would be to justify the initial purchase.
Rules: 1. buy donor bikes in a size range that can fit, if I get attached to donor = It Happens. 1a. flipping bikes for a loss is beyond Hassle. 2. never insist on 100% original parts. Era appropriate preferred, but.... It's a pedal hike, built to pedal. 3. make sure there is adequate storage space. 4. always have a few favored riders ready to go, since delayed projects are reality. 5. for some builds, you know a Plan B may be needed - make it more realistic and cheaper than Plan A. 6. know when to cut bait, you are only getting sunburned. |
Well, the problem Trek now belongs to a new owner, new owner has a relative who works at a bike shop, problem solved.
And apparently I have a minor problem with bicycle tire pumps. When I see a decent pump for a good price at a thrift shop or rummage sale I often end up buying it once I verify that it works. Oh well, there are worse things in life. Current plan is to combine a few of them to fix marginal components and swap some handles and bases. Then this summer I’ll probably have a local pump sale. I might make enough money to buy a decent bike mounted mini-pump. rambling and riding and meandering in my mind. |
Not sure the Merit of this post, so Pub51 it goes
:)
Ever ride down the road and have an image hit you as ...... whatever...... but this one was humorously relevant to my situation. The mature tree desperately trying to hold onto Spring. The bush of genuine beauty - half blossomed. Knowingly in a direction with no Outlet. And the fireplug....well... self explanatory. :p https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d2c1a6199.jpeg and the grass is plenty green on this side and supports my best habits on sunny days. Perhaps over-civilized but with good pavement. *edit: for the 'not so self-explanatory' https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ea93665052.jpg tho a good doge appreciates a well placed bit of wild wood. |
Is it safe to be in a pub?
Only alone? Oh well. Some cheaper and some better but fewer choices at home. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f327b6411.jpeg Edge of the Dessert. — Flamingo IPA Locked the pub on the way out. |
Grandfathered again.
I’ll drink to it. No cigars. |
I miss driving my Miata.
I quit drinking in '97 while training for the Amsterdam Marathon, but loved the pubs in London while I was there.
Bikeless at the moment awaiting Treks to be delivered for the wife and I. If only I had something else to do, like ride our '95 Miata, Scarlett, on the local back roads. Unfortunately it is sitting broke in the garage. After driving it from Maine to NC, it died on the road. Turns out the bolt holding the cam gear to the exhaust cam sheared off. No longer made, but I sourced one from an online junkyard. Never got that one and am fighting to get the funds back. I found another one, and got it in the head. Now I need to get the timing set. That will have to wait til after our 3 week trip to Massachusetts and Maine for two weddings. I also have leather seat covers that I need to install and new brakes, rotors, and calipers. That will have to wait til I am able to do some back road rides. It's been 13 months, and I miss driving her. I hope this was far enough off topic to be acceptable. I think I'm going to like this place. |

It was 48*. No wind. In the PNW, we revel in the Sun when it comes out in Jan/Feb. Climate change is making us more like coastal CA, |

OldTryGuy -
How’s your PNW? Bet you got over it. Locally = Monday 55* cloudy & dry. No wind. Same on Tuesday. Wed = 48* showers. No 60s for a while. Great for riding is 50s & dry. Check me in J/J/A. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9f0b58233.jpeg Clothes make the ride. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0a6860a5e.jpeg If needed…. |
Life sure has changed since the last time I was in here!
Shat - where’s the bartender? I confess to drinking a bit less, but THIS (thread) is a teetotaler. Hahahaha. Bottoms Up |
I am drinking Dogfish 60's, if that helps any.

2012 Cabernet, Pass Robles by J Lohr. - Seven Oaks Estates. Black current was evident ( as on the vintner’s description) upon opening. Needs more time to open but not yet soft and velvety. Likely to get there, or close = great legs on large glass.
also, a way to show off my custom coasters. Images lazer'd on wood and slate and stuff. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...80539f71f.jpeg No bartender needed. |
