@Cornbiker - The Pub welcomes all paying customers of adequate age. Don't forget that it is also a pic hosting Forum. What and where you ride is of greatest interest. :thumb:

Oh I won't. I am finding at age 58 that I am more interested in cycling than my long term career. In fact I think of disappearing into the West and doing contract work and living off that and SS in a camper van.
|
That leads me to a question for other 50+ cyclists; Are you fully invested in your career still? Or do you lean more and more into your hobbies, etc. as time goes by?

I am now 25 years past the entrance qualification for this pub. I am still working full time and liking it though I go to the office only twice a week mostly. You could say I am fully invested in my career. I haven't ridden as much as I'd like since COVID but before 2020 I was commuting a 35 mile round trip every day as long as there was no snow in the ground. Can't say I liked commuting when the temperature was 20F or lower. I am also a working musician and this year it has taken up a lot of my free time. All that being said and since someone pointed out that pics are encouraged, here is a pic from today's ride, a solo bike instead of on the vintage tandem with my sweetie, something I haven't managed to do for a while. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1b7c773077.jpg (FWIW, this pic is also posted in the Classic&Vintage forum.) |
There is still a bright light at the end of my tunnel
As a 24-year vet of the 50+ Club, I am totally invested in my current career of not working.
From yesterday. Today I played with grandkids. Also, a 40+ year member of the Cycle for a Good Life Society - Cyfogls. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d9889e2de.jpeg |

AI says at my age of 58 I have a .4% chance of meeting a compatibile woman that aligns on values and interests with some level of physical attraction.
Awesome. |

I'm a 45 hour salary guy, and i expect to stay there until retirement. My days of 80 hour weeks are long gone; that was stupid, as I probably wrote 10x more software defects between hours 40-80. |
It makes sense?
Sometimes we do this?
For many miles. Most of the day…. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0b8942828.jpeg So we can enjoy this? https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...016896262.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5ea147e16.jpeg 106.2 for starters. Sulfur hot spring for therapy. |
Any other older divorced guys here? I am having an old divorced guy moment. Could use a peer opinion.
|
Yeah, divorced. Been days tho', you should be past that moment.
Take Pub advice for what it costs. |
So, two people mention the topic of divorce and the whole thread fizzles out? How depressing. Another reason to be happy I never married.
On a lighter note... We still have our bikes, right? |
I forgot what it was even about lol.
|
This 'thread' fizzled out almost from the get-go.
But with Summer almost here bicycle pubs should be active. Even saved a seat for ya'! Oops,... saved a saddle for ya. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...33ca45c78b.jpg |

On a lighter note... We still have our bikes, right? Did somebody say bikes? I love talking bikes. I'm at 4 right now, with * Detroit Bikes Sparrow build fixie my daily commuter, utility bike, 100k RUSA pop machine, and sometimes rando bike when I get the itch for a stupid long fixie ride. * Carbon Trek Domane as my main brevet bike. Performed admirably on two 1200s. Next up is LEL for 1500km. I'm stressed and excited. DNF'd last time, my only grand brevet DNF. * Soma Fog Cutter, former brevet bike, now relegated to foul weather brevet bike, backup commuter, and wannabe gravel or bikepacking bike in case I ever do gravel or bikepacking. * Focus Mares CX bike, from my brief foray into cyclocross. For sale, but nobody is buying. Unicycles and trainer bikes do not count as bikes fyi. BI meaning two, and the unicycle has one wheel as does the trainer bike. I just switched the fixie from square taper with nondescript alloy cranks to a more modern external bearing hollowtech Ultegra crankset. Then I ran into Related to that, the carbon Trek itself potentially has the carbon/alloy battery electrolysis thing at a few places, so maybe I'll consider the Fog Cutter backup for when the alloy bits turn to dust. It is wet here in the PNW, and water always finds a way. Two craigslist ads have only uncovered scammers for the Focus. Annoying. Eventually I'll donate the d**n thing just to free up garage space. September '24 on a RUSA Dart to Seattle I crashed when an oncoming pickup came into our lane and freaked out the pace line leader. No serious injuries, and we all finished within the time limit. Pretty gnarly road rash on my right knee is finally scarring up under the surface. It's been super tender until recently. Kind of a weird injury, I wonder if the weird and slow healing is age related. On a final note, my boss is retiring and I no longer have him between me and the VP, who's an ass. Rage quitting may happen, which means my 2 week trip to the UK in August could extend to three or four. |
Over 2 months since I visited the Pub.
What's up people? I need a drink - or I just might have to go Bonkers - again. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8ae28a8d1b.jpg |
Good post @downtube42.
Let it all hang out. Pub's a good place to vent. Almost nobody here to listen. We probably got bigger problems to boot. Besides..... https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5ead2ded0.jpeg |
I'm still hanging out in Glasgow with the Mrs, post abbreviated LEL. Tomorrow we take a train to London, where we pick up my bike and fly home the next day.
A friend back in the world just told me that 2/3 of my posts to him have been pics of beer. Tonight's, by the way, was Bombay Bicycle Beer, which was excellent. So I sent some non beer pics to even things out. Hiking pics, castle pics, etc. Stirling castle was pretty cool BTW. Why'd the English have to keep attacking, anyway? Sheesh, they needed to chill out a bit. I'm not really feeling going back to work. I'm 65 in September so could take the rest of the month off and call it a career. The Mrs. isn't eligible for Medicare until Feb tho, so we'd have to bridge that. OTOH she's a UK citizen and eligible for NHS so we could just move here. People are nice here; the PNW has prepped me for cold/wet/rain. I could do this. The thing is, the easiest path is to just keep on truckin' (pun intended, if you know my industry). |
I pub crawled through County Kent on occasion, bitd. Homeland of 1st Mrs.

Okay gents and ladies or any age. Seein' as how this is the 50+ forum, I can claim to have been a member for 26 years. I figure all of you appreciate classic and vintage steel-frame bikes, since you (and I) are all classic and vintage. I'm looking to clear some garage space by giving away some bikes, high-end stuff, mostly from the 80's more or less, But I don't want to have to ship them. Are you anywhere near me (central New England) and are interested?
|
Just saw I passed 15,000 posts.
, :twitchy:, Too much yakkin. Think I'll hang in the Pub more. Nice n 'quiet. Not much yakkin here. Since I was born '51 - maybe I'll call it "The Wildwood - Public House #51". |
There are things I want to say, I sometimes type them out, then say "Nah" and erase them.
