Bodie! California's official ghost town (well, for gold mining anyway, but that is a story for another day). When I encounter people visiting from out of the country in Mammoth, I always recommend a visit to Bodie. It's just not the kind of place you see elsewhere.

Oy, I love old ghost towns ... especially ones so full of rich history and great stories. I've got a dozen or so books about it, and they are all fascinating. Did you take the tour of the stamp mill?

I don't either, but the USS Iowa has an interesting history - explosion in 1989 which was rumored to be a ****sexual sailor's suicide/terrorism attack. Investigators found the cause, but not the explanation.

Long views from today.

Even longer views!

Neat animal farm.

Friendly llama

Lots of tractors!

Old store moved into the park

Another old building

It’s hard to see on the sign but this church was founded in 1840.

Followed this organized ride route for most of the day.

Just got back from two-weeks of touring in MT and ID. On my rest day I took a short out and back ride into the woods outside of Yaak, MT, and saw this little bugger. Most exciting.

On my ride today, I saw a mommy moose with her twin babies, but couldn't get phone out quick enough to take picture before she and babies ran across the highway and into the woods. However, I did see this about 5 miles later.

Cloudy and the lightest of showers.

Cloudy skies. Isn’t that best for fishermen? And cyclists.
