My buddy Steve and I are doing the HooDoo 500 (ultra endurance race) in the 2-person geezer category this weekend. At this point, we should be "tapering" instead of riding hard, but I couldn't resist a short ride in the local mountains. Is it still "tapering" if you take your time and just cruise along?

Anyway, it was hot and we were all thirsty and hungry at the end, so we stopped by a local eatery for some Mexican food and mango margaritas.

This is my idea of tapering. Yours?

Bikes: My main, forever Ride, is My 1973 Schwinn Varsity named Henry. He's a tough old number. But I usually have a herd of varying size onhand that I am working on. I fix delapidated bicycles back to working dependable condition and put them up for sale .

It is a Schwinn brand mirror I found at Target a couple of years ago. I think I remember it costing Me about eleven dollars.
Thanks!

Thank you. Its a tough bicycle... I take it everywhere and do all My shopping on it and everything. I purchased this one years ago because it reminded Me so much of an old favorite World Sport I used to enjoy riding 30-35 years ago. I'll keep this one for ever or until it falls apart.

"Alaskanas for global warming."

Amazing pix ... especially that last one of the road leading to the base of Denali.

Interesting graffiti on a highway overpass, on the Cardinal Greenway, southeast of Muncie, IN.

Made me smile...

So? What's the story with the HooDoo 500? There's always a story or two, and definitely pictures.

Lots of pix. I haven't written it up yet, but we did fairly well ... 520 miles in 34:19 with a lot of rain the first day.

Here's a shot of my Fatback Corvus frame with the new set of wheels I built up so I can swap my winter fat wheels for some summer fun wheels.

Was out earlier this morning, riding a bike trail I haven't been on in ages, and came across some colorful wildflowers. For some reason, they made me think of my late wife. Perhaps because her favorite color was yellow. The thought made me both sad and happy at the same time, so I just had to take a picture...

Also came across a historical marker commemorating the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps throughout Cook County in the 1930's, and some of the other uses of the area. This was in the Sweet Woods forest preserve in Thornton, Illinois...
