My Birthday Ride solution

Since I don't see myself riding 53 miles next January, I've decided that I'll do birthday rides for my granddaughter. She turned 1 today. I got the ride in, plus 29 extra, before her party.

But do the 53 in January anyway, or as soon after that as you can.

Are you a clyde (like me?) or dealing with an issue that makes riding 53mi unlikely? No need to reply if it's none of "our" business but if you're in average health and have time for regular riding, 53 might well be within range. I'm out with a broken clavicle at the moment and will have been off a bike for 2months plus when I get back to riding and at that point I have family visiting for two weeks and will do little or no riding but I expect to do 50mi within two weeks of returning to riding. I may well be overly optimistic given that I'm 60yrs old and overweight but I did a 130mi ride last summer (two summers ago... ? lol) and think I can ramp it up pretty quickly. I sure hope so. But fun for you to do a "birthday" ride however you do it. It's just good stuff to keep getting out there regularly and getting/staying in shape while having some fun.

More details - The reason that I have my doubts about 53 miles in January was simply because of Michigan weather. I'm new to serious cycling this year, and I haven't started thinking about riding in or through the winter. Maybe it will be possible, who knows?

I am a clyde at 290 lbs. I started at 335 in March when I committed to a 5 day, 250 mile tour at the first of August. My career long day so far is 47 miles, so 53 is certainly within reach. I'm tentatively planning a 75 mile day in early July.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

I have a god-son who happened to be born on December 25. From the very first year his mother decided to celebrate his birth on June 25. It seemed a little weird the first year but I came to realize the wisdom of that decision.

For those with winter birth dates, birthday rides may be executed during the first week of August. That's a rule I just made up.

"Birthday ride" does not necessarily equate to "age ride." And as one of those with a mid-winter birthday, I say "take your 'birthday ride = age ride and stick it." Take a ride on your birthday if it's feasible; do your age ride when the circumstances work best FOR YOU.

Great job getting in the ride. Could get the Bday ride in next month just 6 months ahead.

Have my 63rd next month and will do 106 to celebrate. Will be a bit better prepared compared to today's ride.

You can do a Birthday ride using Kilometers instead of Miles, which will make it much more doable, and give you that Exotic foreign Country feeling as well...
