Finally - The right bike

Finding the right bike has been a long hard journey. I have been riding road bikes for 6 1/2 years now and I have gone through a number of bikes in a quest for the right one. The list goes from a Trek to an Orbea to Cannondale to Specialized and even an offbrand along with a steel Gunnar. They were all good bikes, but not the one.

A couple months ago I put in a bid on E-bay for a Scott Addict, which is a pure racing bike. I was just playing with the bid, knowing I had entered a number well below half the final price. I guess the bid was ending at a weird time because, of all things, I was high bidder. Instantly I started worrying about what was wrong with the bike that I had not noticed.

It arrived in a well padded shipping box. The components were Dura Ace 7800. The frame had no marks. I assembled it and took it for a ride. My very nice Trek 6.5 also with Dura Ace components has hardly been off the stand since that day.

I do not believe this Scott Addict is a better bike than the Specialized S-Works or the Orbea or the Trek. I believe that each rider has his or her own set of wants and needs. It may take a while to find the bike that does all that for YOU. This one works for me.

What a great find! One of my riding friends built up a Scott Addict earlier this year and really likes it. Funny how you can tell right off if a bike is meant to be. Of all the gruppos I've used the DA 7800 remains my favorite. I like it over Campy SR 11sp, SRAM Red 10 sp, etc. The levers and shifting are so, so smooth and it is so easy to adjust and maintain. What chain ring and gearing are you using? Is the frame black with red accents?

It's great you have found the bike but you just can't be totally sure that there isn't a better one in your future. Enjoy and hoping you have many safe miles to come.

Congrats on the new ride but where's the pictures?

(On a side note anyone want to lay odds on when N+1 occurs? )

Nice find and I agree each bike has something to offer. When it matches your style then it really is magic. I too still use DA 7800 on my Parlee Z4. It just works so well that every time I think of changing it the thought passes quickly.

The Scott Addict came with a standard (53-39) DA 7800 crank and I am staying with that. I did change the 7800 chain and cassette. I installed a 7900 chain and 12 - 27 cassette. And I agree, the 7800 is a great set because of the shifters. I do like the 7900 chain.

I've got an Addict with 7800 and it's my favorite bike. Unfortunately, the bike it replaced, a 2006 Scott CR1 SL, was amazingly better. One of the lightest frames ever made with an integrated derailleur hanger. Ascended like a mountain goat and descended like it was on rails. The Addict was a crash replacement from Scott. Enjoy your Addict!

I also have a Parlee, a Trek 2300, and a Canondale SuperX cyclocross bike.

Sorry, I do not know how to post photographs. The addict is black with red trim. I thumbed through a 2014 scott catalog to find the Addict is back in the line up.

So go find someone who does. It's really not that hard.
