Bikes: Many

It seems like cycling would be a great sport for famous people who don't want to be bothered, My own wife doesn't recognize me in my kit.

David Feherty. Professional Golfer, announcer and humorist. I love watching and listening to this guy. If you've never watched his show in the Golf Channel you've really missed something. A mix of Robin Williams, Mark Twain and Johnny Carson. He is good at what he does.

He did an article for Bicycling Magazine about getting hit by a truck while riding solo before sunrise. He suffered a number of broken bones. Basically caused by an idiot driver......

I'm sure you're already a member of the forum David but didn't want to expose you........I know you'll come out when you're ready to.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London not setting a great example.

Spot the errors!

To be fair he's not 50 for 6 months so has time to learn.

What he should be using is a Bluetooth earpiece.

Hella nice guy too. He's there at the start for most FC 508 races, and is very nice to chat with. Somewhere, I have a pix of him squeegeeing the windshield on someone's SUV. Funny thing ... he could squeegee the whole windshield from one place.

He may not be alive, but he's still famous in my book. Not only for this, but for his quote "Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you have to keep moving."

I think it was Sean Penn who did a ride from Seattle back to L.A. to raise awareness of climate change a few years back. (I think he just wanted an excuse to go on a bike tour.)

NV Congressman John Ensign finished the 2010 Vivabikevegas in just under 6 hours. He is now resigned and disgraced, but he rides a decent bike.

I thought it was a picture of John Forbes Kerry, former Senator from Massachusetts, and current Secretary of State. He owns a custom Serotta, and has ridden the Pan Mass Challenge, the premier fundraising event in Massachusetts.

Of the politicians listed, I think only Kerry and Bush are serious about it. Both of them are very good athletes. The others seem to be using bikes as a photo op. I bet I could kick the entire Clinton clan's butts if I encountered them on the road.

A friend of mine worked in a bike shop on the Stanford campus. JK called to ask if they could set up a bike for him so he could ride while he was in the area. I've never met him, but according to my friend, he was both relaxed and approachable.

Richard Nixon loved bicycling

As did Ronald and Nancy Reagan

Apparently Theodore Roosevelt was a cyclist.

And it looks like William Mc Kinley at least wanted to get the cyclist's votes.

John Jacob Astor, one of the richest men of his times was an enthusiastic bicyclist, he patented a bicycle brake in 1889 and joined the League of American Wheelmen in 1896. But he misses the cut I'm afraid. He had the bad fortune to be on the Titanic at age 48.

This is the third alleged "Famous 50+er" who has had a photo posted with a vague clue to his identification, but no name, and I have no idea who he is. The other one is:

I was able to figure out George Bush, because I found that same picture, with identification, on a different website.

I'm pretty sure that the the woman in the black and white photo is actually Jane Wyman, Ronnie's first wife; Nancy would not be amused .

It is the real deal. Look closely and the downtube and headtube and you'll see that Carter owns a Rivendell.

Amazing and quite unlikely! Jeremy is always giving the Hamster (Richard Hammond) trouble about being a cyclist. Never thought I'd see the day . . .
