Odd driver interaction
Conversation with a driver at a redlight during a recent bike ride:
Driver (woman in her 30s):" Excuse me, how old are you?"
Me: "50. Why do you ask?"
Driver "Just wondering." drives off.
Her tone was absolutely flat. No hint of condecension, flirtation, insult, or admiration. I have no idea whether I was being insulted, taunted, flattered, or flirted with.

Yep... my guess too. She was looking at you... and judging another. You were merely "meat".

My guess:
-She watched your legs and rear as she approached. She expected a young buck in his 20s.
-She went home that evening, and watched her husband as he undressed. The flab and beer
belly that can only be obtained by long weekends in front of the TV, Budweiser in hand.
-The next morning, she filed for divorce, went out, and bought a bike.
Just a guess, of course.

Sorry BBBbean, these are all nice theory's, but the fact is you were just TOO OLD. We all have to face up to that at some point.

I see two reasons for the question.
1. She figures anyone over the age of 12 knows you're only supposed to ride on the sidewalk, and she's just making sure.
2. She has a significant other who figures all physical activity ends when organized sports in high school/college ends.
I know quite a few who fit the #2 bill so I'm going with that one.

Haven't all of us 50+ guys caught a women checking out our... spandex... at one time or another. I am not sure it actually means much of anything... really. I think I'd rather be looked over... than over looked.

Ill bet she is contemplating buying a bike for herself but figured only young people ride bikes. then she saw a fit man who wasnt still wet behind the ears and was probably encouraged. she just asked to verify that you were actually as old as she thought you were.

The answer should have been " I wish I was 20, like you! At least his helps me stay this way. Do you ride? "
Another opportunity missed! At our age, we can't afford to do that very often!
