Flippin bike broke in two! Is that some kind of new safety feature?

Don't know about that. The official with the flag was obscuring it. When he moved, the lead cyclist saw it and moved over but the drafter didn't see it in time to avoid it. What was that thing anyway, and why was it ON the track?

Your probably right. But it sort of looks like he saw it... and was almost transfixed. Like he was also thinking what the heck is that thing. I try to look at where I want to go... and not at the obstruction.
