Bikes: 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo; 1960 Capo Sieger (2); 1962 Carlton Franco Suisse; 1970 Peugeot UO-8; 1982 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10;

She needs to sort out the source of the dizziness.

Does she have more general balance problems, which could result from a middle ear / semicircular canal condition?

Does she get dizzy from any type of exertion, which may indicate a cardiovascular problem?

If the answer to either question is "yes," she should seek professional medical attention, because help is readily available for both types of conditions.

If her balance is otherwise normal and fast walking or jogging does not make her dizzy, has she simply lost the "recipe" for handling a bicycle? She may have to re-learn. (Don't laugh -- I was 12 years old before I could balance a bicycle.)

My wife gets dizzy every time I suggest she might want to actually ride one of the three bikes we have bought for her.

I sometimes get dizzy after a climb, or sprint, when I am cooling off. I take medication for blood pressure and when I recover, my BP sometimes fall too low. I spoke tot he Doc's and they adjusted the dose, and it happens less now.

You know, tandems are really fun. Best way for a couple to ride together, especially a couple with differing riding experience or ability. I almost never ride my singles anymore.

Some people just don't want to ride and use this as an excuse not to. Just remember you can lead a horse to water .....

Hey John44 -- CarbonfiberBoy is right, you should get a tandem. I've got a very low mileage tandem for you. Didn't end my wife's dizziness when I mention cycling, but might work for you.

If she's actually getting dizzy, talking about a different bike is nuts. Does she have a physical problem? If so, see a doctor. It could be high blood press, low blood pressure, or a million different things.

She did ride for a while about 35 yrs ago but hasn't tried lately.We will have to try and then see how she does. I got a lot of good information and suggestions.Our daughterinlaw said she could try her bike.If that doesn't work we can rent a tandem or a trike.or I can get used to being the Lone Wolf old fart on a bicycle.

Probably not vertigo. My brother-in-law had a three year bout with vertigo that had him just about incapacitated. Didn't know up from down for a while. Luckily, the treatment he received has him just about back to normal. I, on the other hand, have a periodic balance problem, inner ear related, that can keep me off my bike when the problem peaks.

John44 Someone suggested a trike for your wife. They are fun! Let her try one out. The experience may hook you as well.
