Dahon Vitesse Stem/Handlepost Extension
Hi All
If I want to raise the handlebars of my wife's Vitesse, she feels she leans forward to much. What is the best stem extender to buy?
Thanks
Craig

Easy and cheap would be to put some swept back handlebars but it would compromise the fold a bit.
Is it possible to loosen the stem you`ve got and turn it 180 degrees ?
There are Dahon stems available but also plenty after market stems available. Find out the angle of your present stem. Then decide what angle you would like to have and go looking for one. Also some can be adjusted for height and some not. If you buy another Dahon stem you could maybe just buy the lower part.
If you are in the US best would be to ask Thor. If you are in other parts of the world shipping from the US could be huge.

An Aber Halo stem extender available from ThorUSA..or if you are in the UK a https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/stems/tranzx-twinholder/
Should do the job..I have one and gives about 3 to 4 cms forward /higher/or backwards movement..

There are several different Dahon Radius handleposts. Googeling "Dahon Radius -V Comfort Handlepost" is not giving me any impression of what exactely you are looking at.
Most of them would fit on her bike, but what you need to take a close look at is the angel at the bottom of the stem. You want one where the stem goes straight up instead of forwards away from the rider. This can be difficult to spot on a small picture, you may want to contact a seller or two to ask. I would buy a stem where the handlebar is atatched on top of the stem, not one where you use a stem extender to place the handlebar in front of the stem.
Stem and seat tube on these bikes is made to adjust to most rider sizes. They do that by angeling seat post and stem away from eacother, so that the more you lift them up the longer reac you get. You want a stem that goes as close to straight up as possible.
this bike: Dahon Mu SL - C H WHITE & SON
has a stem that is going almost straight up.
This bike:Dahon Vitesse D7HG - C H WHITE & SON
has a stem that has a more forward angle at the bottom.
The bike is made up of several components so the same stem used on two different bikes/frames can give a totally different result.
First find out what stem is already on the bike so you do not buy the same again.
I know some peopel have turned the stem around 180 degrees to fit children. Maybe this is an option on your bike- or maybe not.

With the Aber Halo stem you can get forward ,upwards or rearwards movement of the bars..On my old Dahon the handle bars were height adjustable only..ie the bars were part of the handlepost so I had to cut them down to about 4 inches in length then fix the Aber Halo extender to them then fit new handlebars to the Aber Halo stem..Sounds hard but very easy to do..

Roger that. Some of the Vitesses have a telescopic h.bar post and a h.bar clamp. They are easy to mod with MTB type riser bars with a couple of inches or so of lift. (30mm or 50mm)
Then they can be rotated back or forth to extend or reduce the reach. You need to check the clamp diameter first.
They can be cut down to size with a rotary pipe cutter, from your local plumbers merchant. Sample:
