Choosing a Dahon (first time getting a folding bike)

The Recumbent Quant
You should also be able to put a 9 or 10 speed cassette (with upgraded shifter and likely derailleur) on an 8 speed. You're stuck with 7 speeds on a 7 speed.

Ditto here. The Sturmey-Archer 8 speed is a great looking hub, especially on my a red Dahon Curve, just wish it had less friction and less noise. I agree, If I could find a narrow Nexus 8 somehow, I would put that on the Curve instead.

I like the SA better for small wheels. Firstly the 1 :1 gear is in 1st which makes it easier to get a proper gear range. Additionally the Nexus hubs need maintenance, while SA doesn't.
Thanks
