Pedal issue = Dahon, easy on and off quick release not securely attaching.

Hi All,

Before I start I hope this is in the correct forum, if not can someone re-thread it please.

I was in China (Baoding) in November 2019 and came across the Dahon Jifo 16 bike in a cycle shop, it was nice and small so I bought it, thinking that I was to bring it back to the UK I bought one for my wife. The one I got for my wife was new, unwrapped only taken out of the box and put on display in the window, so it had not been built up.

When I returned home in January 2020 I unwrapped the bike for my wife and found the pedal issue (plus a few other that are not important for riding the bike), where the pedal does not attach (see picture ‘Pedal locking’). On investigation the issue is related to the shim inside the pedal not being correctly machined inside the attachment section (see picture ‘attachment issue’).

The main issues I have are:
- the bike is not warranted outside China
- there are no Dahon dealers in UK
- I am not going back to China

My quick question is, does anyone know where I can get a pedal attachment from the I can swap with the defective one?

Thanks for your help.

Check with Thor, he is a great resource for Dahon issues.

I think your best bet is just to purchase MKS quick release pedals. The dealer you purchased the bike from is probably not going to be of help. Have you contacted Dahon? There are a few bike dealers in the UK that sell MKS pedals. My Dahon eezz came with MKS pedals and they work fine. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and open up your wallet. Best of luck. Just be greatful that is all you came back with.

I think that SJS in the UK is filling mail order orders but they might be behind schedule. They sell some items for folding bikes, I just checked and they sell MKS EZY pedals.

I am not familiar with your model bike, I assume it takes a standard pedal thread.

If you have not figured this out yet, one side is left hand thread and the other is right hand thread. So, if you can't get one pedal unthreaded, there is a reason for that.

Have you spoken to White in Malmesbury (Wiltshire). They were dahon dealer and are still selling dahon... I went to the shop before lockdown to get kinetix wheels...
