just wanted to give you a heads up on shipping. I'm dropping the bike off this evening to be packed and shipped at my Bike Shop. They're excellent and do this kinda thing all the time. The estimated shipping that is included in the auction is accurate, and I won't be able to refund anything for you. Actually, with insurance the shipping will cost me about $20 more, but I'll cover that. As soon as I have the tracking number, I'll send that your way, and that will be Monday afternoon. From there, the bike will take 5-7 days to get to you, possibly less.

So I have never paid more than 60 shipping for any of my bikes and frames shipped from usa or europe, and I have never charged anyone that much for my bikes to be shipped to them..I do my own packing though

and also now it is not being shipped 2nd day air but 5-7 days ground


so what do you think....is the lbs scamming or do those guys really charge that much



chalk it up to experience and let it go?? or?? is just seems 100+ from new york is just excessive

for 100+ I want my folder packaged in gold

So you have bought a bike and have had shipping charges with ups ground over $120 to be shipped to you??

Has anyone had shipping/handling charges of over 120.00 us to have a bike shipped to them, ground shipping in usa

Shipping will be about $30-40, the bike shop is charging the rest on handling.

yeah, I called ups and that is what they said
about 40 shipping

so the lbs charging around 60 for the boxing...is that normal?

I have no clue to what these guys charge, I have always done my own packing.. foam rubber tubing, bubble wrap, duct tape...maybe 15-20 and box I get from my other buys, I just keep recycling them

I have a funny feeling that the bike shop charges $X to box a bike without regards to whether it is a folding bike. Consequently, you got screwed.

yeah, for some reason I thought that because it folds, it could be put in a smaller box

I guess from now on if someone has a "boxed professionally by lbs or whatever" I will stay clear

it's funny, every single bike I have purchased from ebay from a person who has boxed it themselves, I have never had a problem

and every bike I have packed and shipped, 30-40 and no problems

Of course it could. My guess is that the shop simply charges a fixed fee excluding tandems and recumbents. Hence, why I think you got screwed ... not by the seller but by their pricing system.

Im not sure you said where you were at or what type of folder you bought, but reguardless it sounds like they may be putting a tube of Vaseline in the box with your bike for "EASE OF PENETRATION"... I hang out at a couple of LBS and see bike come in all the time to be shipped. I ALSO just bought two of the heaviest folders (over 40 pounds each)and had them shipped (separately). The shipping is weight AND box size dependant. One of the folders was 100 bucks INCLUDING the price of the bike (Ebay find , and the other was shipped by a relative for 30 dollars shipping. Both of these bikes where shipped in a full sized bike box and packed by non professionals (meaning I could have gotten them in a smaller box easily). The big variable you and the seller are dealing with (other than the sellers honesty) is the LBS. They can charge whatever they want if someone is willing to pay it. I would take it like a champ this time, and next time just "Bend at the knees" it will leave you a bit less exposed ...

The seller also had the lbs pack & ship it. It was a R20 which I won for $80.

Not true. The seller is not living up to his end of the deal. He said it would be $100 shipped 2nd day air. It depends on how big a fuss you want to make.

I sent my defective Swift folder back to Brooklyn from Arizona about a month ago. I already had the box it had come in. I found out that FedEx is cheaper than UPS, and forgedabout the second day delivery thing. That's way more expensive. I can't find the receipt right now, but I think it was about $45.

exactly how I feel about the shipping, but I see a common thread in these post..all of us were charged these large fees for shipping dealing with ebay and people using the lbs to pack it

it does take the sting off a little knowing that others have gone through this too...and I am sorry to hear it

I always try to get stuff shipped to me by fedex, I have had 100% good dealings with them, and they always come out cheaper

So,I was just sitting here stewing over this, I just spent a month trying to deal with some companies in England....one bike shop quoted a price of $750 US to ship a folder here,and that was the average price so I guess its all relative

and as I said before, ebay has changed over the year or so, I think I will just take my winnings and go home

I've been dealing with Peter. He seems like a very nice guy. I spoke to the man at the Xootr place briefly a couple of times, too. I don't know his name. He sounded very nice. The first Swift I received, a custom made job from Peter, turned out to have a couple of defects, mainly a defective hanger, but also a self-destroying gear change trigger for the internal hub 3-speed wheel I had bought (I bought it with two rear wheels, a flip flop and the 3-speed. I returned the 3-speed with the junk gear change trigger (stay away!) for refund and just kept the flip flop rear wheel) so i had to ship it back to Brooklyn from Arizona. I guess Peter should have paid for the return shipping, but I paid, and I didn't press the point because he made some changes to the bike, plus he said that, to make up for my trouble, he would replace it with the steel Swift when that comes out - whenever that may be.

BTW they only charged 17.00 to ship a complete swift usp ground...got here in 4 days
