Are you actually going to buy one of these bikes, or do you just endlessly search the internet looking for obscure folders to show everyone?
The Legitimiser
It doesn't look wonderful. Are you sure it's German? I'm pretty sure klappfahrrad just translates as Folding Bike. I'd guess this is a cheap Chinese made folder for sale in Germany.

Sammyboy is correct. There is no "The" Klappfahrrad in this world nor a company in Germany that is called Klappfahrrad. The word normally stands for a bike that folds with one hinge in the middle and that's it. Now the modern folders are called "Faltrad". Klappen is another word for falten (= to fold) ad an "r" and you get klappern =rattling. So there is a saying in Germany:Originally Posted by Sammyboy

"Faltrad" comes from falten (=to fold)
"Klapprad" comes from klappern (=to clack, to rattle)
So - if you need a rattling bike or if you want your bones to rattle go and get it.

BTW: I am also interested in the obscure folders so for me its fine to have them posted here...but...just an idea: perhaps it would be a little bit more tidy to have one huge "what bike" tread and you add all your obscure findings there instead of starting a new thread for every finding?

oh ok thanks and DL dont accuse me of being a **** just looking for folding bikes to how you im looking for a decent bike to buy if you didnt know already because my folding bike atm is a old bickerton and i would like a newer folding bike, someone found a gazelle and i thought that was a rubbish bike (i also saw it on ebay) but now ive learned that it is a very good dutch bike, so i cant miss these chances and i have to make sure if these bikes i come across are any good or not.

I like the what bike posts... we can always ignore them if we don't.. and I think too we can keep searching for the bike of our dreams - in the UK most folders that are any good are a lot more that equivalent q. non folders, so lets keep searching and asking

What's with the hostility DlBroox? This is what these threads are all about. if you don't like it then the answers are obvious what you should do lol! Originally Posted by DLBroox

whatbike keep posting dude, finding obscure folders whether you buy them or not means we tap into the diverse knowledge on this subforum and learn things like the Gazelle. I picked it up yesterday it's a decent 3 speed cruising bike with nicely spaced gears and well made! All for £63 and thanks to these forums I knew what I was getting beforehand. Llike you I ask and learn and sometimes offer my limited scraps of knowledge back!
what is your budget and also your height etc and I'll keep an eye out on ebay too and let you know?

thanks mull, great buy with the gazelle and thanks for the encouragement, also i am around 5"5 in height and my budget is £200.

No probs WB you are welcome!
I'd have recommended the Downtube FS on ebay but it doesn't come with rack and fenders although these can be added. It's a very nice frame and ride.
If you want all inclusive good quality entry to folding bikes the Dahon D7 is ideal. The best retialer new (based in London though) is:
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2008-DAHON-SPE...3286.m14.l1318
Great shop and selection and such helpful staff and owner too. If not keep an eye out for second hand D7's on ebay.co.uk. I presume you are UK right?
BTW D7 is cheaper than the Dawes and so is the Downtube.

I would never use that kind of language about someone on this forum and don't appreciate you putting those kinds of words in my mouth. I apologize for doubting your intentions. Originally Posted by what bike?

See ya. It's been real.

im sorry for using that language but it seems like you were accusing me of endlessly searching for bikes without buying 1, but i am going to buy one when i find a decent folder in my price range + i dont know if i find a folder if its good or not, i saw that gazelle on ebay and thought it was just another cheapo bike but i was wrong and i dont want to miss an opportunity like that again if i see a good bike and dont know if its any good or not thats why im posting them on this site to get peoples knowledge about folding bikes (that i dont know about)

what bike, if your budget is £200 then you're bang on target for a downtube fs and in that price range i really don't think you're gonna find a better buy.
and keep posting the folding bike pics - always nice to see what weird and wonderful stuff is out there.

Sorry had to comment on this couldn't resist lol. Where's the really bad language from whatbike lol? Cultural clash again perhaps? Originally Posted by DLBroox

DlBroox your rudeness far outweighed the offensiveness of the use of the word '****' and your abrupt comment was universally rude rather than culturally specific. So yes see ya!

Or did I miss something?.............

You should get a Downtube whatbike. An excellent beginner bike and so upgradeable in the future on the FS frame. I have one and love it. PM Sammyboy.

Since whatbike has some strong protectors, I would like to strike a blow for DLBroox.
DLs answer to whatbikes question was bugged (at least I read it that way) and yes, perhaps also kind of rude. But there is always (at least) to sides of the story no? While DLBroox could perhaps benefit from a little more evenness in temper, whatbike did somethimes post in a manner which can be irritating. He could imho benefit from a little more discipline in posting. For example not using the "edit" button but posting 3 and more times (hence push the thread up), rare use of punctuation keys, asking (next to useful questions) quite some questions which can easily be answered by a little google search and using words like "tw..." (
thats shocking, at least, when I look it up in my language)...all that could be viewed as lacking some respect to the fellow reader. I am assuming it was also this and not the nice pictures of obscure bikes which caused DL to loose patience for a moment. Sorry if this is schoolmasterly talk
and all absurd. I know, that not being in my mother tongue I might walk on black ice.So peace and a hug to all

...we are bikers, don't forget

Hi Somnetash. A lot of the points you make are correct but i don't think it was ever WB's intention to irritate or be rude. People need to normalise to forums and be made to feel welcome.
If whatbike is a new member and some protocols are not being followed its just nice to point it out surely? Also he didn't call anyone a '**** if one reads his posting. In English slang '****' means an idiot and he meant he didn't like being spoken to like an idiot. also sure he can google or even search the name of a bike in here but it is also good to seek opinions oof others which is what many of the threads do.
Dropping that topic and back to bikes. Tovar do you mean the ride quality is not evident? Sorry dropped a friend to the airport its 05:27 here so a bit brain dead lol. I'd certainly take a look at the Downtube as a budget option here in the UK. I'm very happy with my FS as it rode fine out of the box and was very easy to make a number of upgrades to.

I think you may be confusing t w a t with twit?
In my dictionary it's a slightly more polite version of the c word (if that doesn't sound ridiculous).
All the best,

**** literally means what you think it means, but in the UK, it's used very lightly to call someone an idiot. It's not really a word that someone would take offence to. The C word is 100 times more offensive. You might call your best friend a **** for not putting the milk away. Twit is only ever used by people whose parents have salaries of over £500k.
That's true enough Sammy, and agree with you that it has come into common usage in place of twit for people whose parents are below the £500k mark.
But I guess the poster's offense came from the literal meaning/dictionary definition;
**** (twŏt)
n.
Vulgar Slang The vulva.
Offensive & Vulgar Slang A woman or girl.
[Origin unknown.]
Different things offend different people - just the way it is!

I think that in a culture where it's not used at all, and you have to look it up in a slang dictionary, it's completely understandable to imagine it more offensive than it's usually considered.
