Thanks a lot, but you haven't tried to change any of the handlebars? How are they for comfort and weight?

I have only tried adding a dahon stem extender to mine, else all stock. Dahon stem made silver with sports stem more prone to speed wobble. So I took it off.
No real comment on comfort, seems fine. Weight, is average. I find the birdy postion fine for off road. On the road I prefer to be stretched forward and tucked more.

I find it ironic that the brompton is the bike of the two that improves most with extra reach bars or stems, but the brompton is the hardest to acomadate the extra reach without messing up the fold plus the closed stem does not lend itself to the mod. I extended the brompton cockpit by around 9 inches with bullbars and dahon extender.

Whereas the birdie and to some extent the mezzo are easier to add this but benefit or even deteriorate due to adding too much forward reach.

Mind you I haven't really tried much mucking about with my birdies they do their off road jobs very well.

Thanks for the info... I'm going to think hard about whether I really need it or should I go for a cheaper alternative.

I've given up the idea of the Birdy now, probably will find a cheap 20" folder that sits better between my Brompton and 26" MTB.

A 2nd hand Xootr Swift would be sweet - something I can bear to leave chained outside the mall for an hour or so.

I never did. Always fun to dream until reality kicks me in the nuts.

Sure a beater bike would serve me just as well as a Swift, but I wouldn't enjoy it as much, I'd imagine.

Ooo the Swift looks good. I've messaged the guy and he wanted to confirm the sale immediately. I said I wanted to see it first and test ride it. He said there's a warranty and I can return the bike if I wasn't happy. Weird conversation.
