I also had a chain jump off the sprockets recently and wondered if there is anything that might need adjusting? Found a stick to help get it back on the rings and avoid oil and grease on my hands :lol:

Funny enough, I am not sure. I think he changed the ring - didn't really check :o

Now in the process of moving and thinking of leaving the Mezzo behind - shame on me, impulse purchase x2!

I needed to update my bottom bracket as it is getting quite grindy. Any one know what size it is?

just acquired an i4 myself; but things seem to be slowing down on the Mezzo front, eh..?

incidentally-

my new 'narrow' chain started jumping yesterday, as soon as I'd fitted it;

I've got a Nexus i4 sprocket wheel on order from SJS and I've refitted the old chain in the meantime...

I've read a lot about people saying these bikes need brake-upgrades; is that REALLY an issue for some folk?

I've found the i4 to be the most significant 'stopper' of any bike I've got...

I haven't had any brake problems with my I4, but I haven't really hustled at a speed where it'd be an issue. Or maybe the previous owner or LBS sorted it before I bought it, I don't know.

I think the pictures of bikes I have seen online tend to have front & rear arm-coloured brakes and my rear is a silver DIA COMPE caliper, as opposed to the black Promax item on the front which I suspect is original..??

Hi guys, long time!
I know this thread is cold and probably dead but I need some help.
Need to pack my Mezzo D9 into a suitcase as checked baggage for airline travel.
Any tips on how to do this?
Also, is this a bad idea and should I just fork out and get it shipped?

It HAS been a long time; but Mezzo's never die! (even if we don't hear from many other owners...)

Rule one on folding for long term has to be to get into the top gear first; as it backs out the gear cable as much as possible to give the slackest line for folding.

Are you talking about trying to get your bike on as hand-luggage?! It's tempting; but I think with the right packaging; hold-storage should be fine. If you can find one (and I did) you can occasionally get an original Mezzo carry-bag, for storage and shipping. That helps immensely.

Whatever you do; photograph the bagged-bike before you get to the airport; I always want visual reference, in case the thing gets taken off you and lost. Despite all the 'tech' and barcodes/ QR codes in the world, when all the data is lost through mishandling; the actual picture of the package is what it comes down to...

I think I have to take it apart to make it fit into a suitcase but can't work out how.

Lots of youtube videos on Terns/Dahons but no Mezzo...

a transpacific trip sounds like my kind of trip!

I had mine on a voyage up to the Shetland Isles, and thanks to endless eBay scavenging, I found a transit bag for it.

I wonder if you could find one of these..

Did you have to check it in as special cargo/baggage? I would like to simply take it on as one of my pieces of checked baggage, hence my search for suitcase breakdown.

If you were allowed to fly with that bag as normal luggage then that would be great for me. I think I might have that bag or similar in storage somewhere...

Wee update. Thanks to foldupJim for taking the time to reply.
Successfully travelled with my Mezzo in checked/hold luggage. In a soft case no less!
Bubble wrap over the pokey and delicate bits, deflating the tires, undoing the handlebar stem to fold smaller etc worked a treat.
My long forgotten baby arrived without a ding!
I did ask the airline to slap a fragile sticker on the case but the case was beat up by the time I got it home!

My Mezzo D9 does not travel far these days - mostly down the hill to church and back again! Not travelling to work on it now as I don't visit the main office in South Wales often.

Mezzo was my only choice when I decided to buy a folder. I am an engineer and the design with no hinge on the main strut is the main reason I bought my Mezzo D9. I am really pleased with the ride and have also have used it on a coastal path where there is gravel. The photo was taken on a non gravel area but thought you would enjoy the bike and background :).

​​​Which do you recommend I go for second hand in the uk? Have a Brompton but really interested in one of these as an alternative, but don't know a lot about either. The Mezzo is about £100 less but I assume is a fair bit older.

I would not heistate to buy a Mezzo D9 or D10 and you can get them from around £250 - £350 on Facebook Marketplace or more on eBay! Be careful not to buy one which looks worn out - check the hinge and ride it and see if there is any noise from the hinges (on the handlebar especially).

Excellent suggestion. There's 2 available right now, and both look to be available from the UK.

Thanks both. So most parts are non-proprietary and still available? Also what about the Ori Mi8? Is it a better bike in any way?

Hello. First time posting on here as a Mezzo D9 owner and wondered if there is still life in this thread. I have an old Mezzo D9 but after a ride i discovered the sockal clip had fallen off. It must have worked lose. Anyone know if these are replaceable?
